PLANO, Texas (Jan. 29, 2025) — Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2023 model year Toyota and Lexus vehicles in North America. Approximately 1,700 vehicles are involved in the recall for the U.S. from the following product lines – Toyota Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, Lexus NX 250, NX 350 and RX 350 vehicles.

The affected vehicles may not have been correctly inspected in a prior recall to determine if a replacement of the spiral cable assembly in the steering column that controls the driver’s side airbag was needed. A loose connection in the spiral cable can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate, and the driver’s airbag may not deploy in a crash. As a result, the vehicle will not comply with a federal safety standard and may increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a crash.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the serial number of the spiral cable with an improved process and, if necessary, replace it with a new spiral cable at no cost to customers.

Owners of these vehicles included in the recall will be notified by late March 2025.
