CHARLOTTE, N.C., (Oct. 8, 2017) It was an emotional win for Martin Truex Jr. who captured the victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, guaranteeing the Camry driver a spot in the third round of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
Toyota drivers have now won all four Playoff races as Martin Truex Jr (first in points), Denny Hamlin (fifth), Kyle Busch (sixth) and Matt Kenseth (ninth) continue to compete for the championship.
“Unbelievable win,” said Truex in victory lane. “Just a total team effort. Every single guy, every guy on this team, did a perfect job today and I can’t be more proud of them. This time of the year is just when you want it to happen. You dream about days like today. I don’t know if we had the best car, but we damn sure got it in victory lane.”
Truex held off fellow Toyota contender Denny Hamlin in a green-white-checkered finish to take home his sixth win of the season after pacing the field for 91 (of 337 laps). Polesitter Hamlin led 45 circuits while Kyle Busch led 22 laps.
The Cup Series Playoffs continue next weekend at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, October 15, 2017.
