Tyler Gibbs is group vice president and president of Toyota Racing Development (TRD) U.S.A., a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc.
Gibbs is responsible for all TRD operations and activities in North America. These include engine engineering, vehicle engineering, commercial activities, manufacturing, operations, and administration. He oversees all TRD facilities — the organization’s headquarters, engine operations, commercial activities and manufacturing in Costa Mesa, California, the vehicle engineering and team support operations in Salisbury, North Carolina, the GR Garage and Toyota Performance Center in Mooresville, North Carolina, and the partnership support group in Indianapolis.
Highlights from Gibbs’ career at TRD include supporting Toyota and Lexus teams and drivers to victories in a variety of events, including the Baja 500 and 1000, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Chili Bowl, 12 Hours of Sebring, the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500. In addition, during his tenure Toyota teams and drivers have earned championships in the CART, CORR, Grand-Am, IMSA, Indy Racing League, the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, NHRA, and USAC.
A Westmont College graduate, Gibbs began his career with Cosworth Engineering in 1992. He later earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In his spare time, he enjoys learning, auto racing, traveling, sailing and overseas missions.
