PLANO, Texas (June 20, 2024) — Toyota is conducting a noncompliance recall involving certain model year 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles. Approximately, 145,000 vehicles are involved in this recall in the U.S.
The curtain shield airbag on both the driver’s and passenger’s side may not deploy as intended during certain crashes if the driver or passenger windows are rolled down. If this occurs, the vehicles may not meet a federal safety standard, increasing the risk of injury during certain crashes.
Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the curtain shield airbags with improved ones, free of charge.
Customers were initially notified about this issue by August 19, 2024.
Production and sales resumed in late October, in addition to the remedy being made available to dealers. Toyota will begin sending notices to customers on how to receive their remedy starting in early November.
