PLANO, Texas (June 18, 2026) — Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain model year 2026 bZ and Lexus RZ vehicles in North America. Approximately 16,200 vehicles are involved in this recall.
The ECU for the battery supplying electricity to the drivetrain in the subject vehicles can experience an error that can cause the electric drive system to shut down. While power steering and power-assisted braking continue to operate, this can cause a loss of motive power while driving at a higher speed, increasing the risk of a crash.
For all involved vehicles, dealers will update the software of the battery ECU, free of charge.
Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by mid-August 2026.
Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter.
