Let’s Make a Better Planet: Toyota Logistic Services Is on its Way to Carbon Neutrality
Read MoreToyota Motor North America (Toyota) is electrifying more than just vehicles as its port facility in Long Beach, California: Toyota Logistic Services (TLS) is on its way to carbon neutrality.
For several years, Toyota’s sustainability team has worked to reimagine the facility in line with the company’s Environmental Challenge 2050 goals. Now, TLS has its sights set on becoming carbon neutral by leveraging an on-site facility that will use green hydrogen to generate enough electricity to power the TLS facility and more when it comes online. It will make TLS the first port facility of its kind and Toyota’s first facility to use 100% renewable energy.
In 2015, Toyota identified the Tri-Gen energy solution which can produce water, electricity and hydrogen – all derived from bio-waste sourced from agricultural waste. Tri-Gen will produce renewable hydrogen, electricity and hot water locally on-site for local consumption.
Translated into action, Tri-Gen will be used by TLS to fuel imported vehicles with 100% renewable fuel, put them on trucks fueled by 100% renewable fuel and zero emissions, and eventually deliver to customers in a sustainable way.
