Toyota and Lexus Celebrate 15 Years of Hybrids and Hollywood
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 22, 2015 – Fifteen years ago, Toyota launched a hybrid no one had heard of…the Prius. Shortly after launch, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) and Toyota connected to help bring the hybrid to Hollywood. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

TORRANCE, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2015) – Toyota’s auto hauling carrier, Toyota Transport, was recognized today for its mindful approach to the environment. Toyota Transport moves approximately 430,000 new Toyota and Lexus vehicles to dealerships every year, on the west coast, and takes pride to make those moves as environmentally efficient as possible. Because of those efforts, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Toyota Transport with a SmartWay Excellence Award.

TORRANCE, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2015) – Movie magic sometimes turns into technological reality. Last night more than 300 new Toyota Mirai owners, Mirai dealers and special guests watched actors Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd bring a famous trash-into-fuel scene from “Back to the Future Part II” into the present. The occasion: a celebration to mark the U.S. arrival of Toyota’s Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle — a modern, real-life version of Doc Brown’s trash-fueled technology. The “Fueled by the Future” video debuted at the event is the last in the “Fueled By Everything” online video series demonstrating hydrogen fuel’s potential to be sourced from almost anything, including solar, wind and trash.

When Toyota introduced Lexus to the U.S. market in 1989, the Georgetown, Ky., plant – its first stand-alone vehicle manufacturing facility in America – was just in its second year of producing the Camry.
Fast forward 26 years and that same plant is celebrating the start of U.S. Lexus production.
