TORRANCE, Calif., (May 30, 2014) – One of the most distinctive members of the Scion family, the 2014 xB stands apart from the crowd. Its unmistakable boxy style and spacious interior now comes with a highly desirable, standard 6.1-inch LCD touchscreen Scion Display Audio System. All 2014 Scion models feature the system, which includes HD Radio™ technology, hands-free phone capability, music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology and iPod® connectivity.
Fun Behind the Wheel
Expect a smooth ride and responsive handling in the xB whether it’s the five-speed manual transmission or the four-speed automatic transmission with sequential shifting. The 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine delivers 158 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) constantly adjusts to suit driving conditions for best performance. The 2014 xB has earned an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway with both the manual and automatic transmissions and is rated California Level II Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV-II).
To weather bumps in the road, the 2014 xB sits on a MacPherson® strut front suspension with stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension. A set of 16-inch wheels comes standard, and customers have the choice between three standard wheel covers with 5, 6 or 7 spokes. Optional 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels also are available.
Exterior Lines of Style
The unique linear design of the xB communicates an exciting style drivers can’t forget. The straight roofline extends straight back until it intersects with the rear fascia dominated by an expansive rear window with privacy glass. Drivers will appreciate the chrome-tipped exhaust and bold tail lights.
From the front, the strong angles of the halogen projector-beam headlights and standard LED accent lamps give the xB powerful lines and presence. There are also LED turn indicators built into powered outside mirrors. For 2014, the standard offered colors are Black Sand Pearl, Nautical Blue Metallic, Sizzling Crimson Mica, Army Rock Metallic, Absolutely Red, Classic Silver Metallic and Super White.
The xB continues to impress drivers with endless utility packed into a small, stylish package. The roomy interior seats five people comfortably, offering 11.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and a generous 69.9 cubic feet when the 60/40 split rear seats fold flat. Storage doesn’t end there; drivers will discover side storage bins, a large center console with sliding armrest and a useful, hidden compartment under the rear seats to store small items like magazines, laptops and music. Sport front bucket seats add a modern look while the driver’s side adjusts for height, and spacious rear seats keep passengers comfortable.
Clean lines and metallic accents add extra impact to the xB interior. The three-spoke steering wheel tilts and telescopes to accommodate heights of all drivers with audio controls right at the fingertips. Gauges and deep orange multi-information display sit prominently centered on the metal-tone accented dash. Other standard features include remote keyless entry, power windows with driver side auto down and electric power steering.
The Sound of Style
The versatility of the xB expands further with the Standard Display Audio system featuring a 6.1 inch LCD touchscreen. Drivers can listen to music, make calls and enjoy their own content through Bluetooth® hands-free and audio streaming connectivity, HD RadioTM, USB connectivity and steering-wheel audio controls. The sound system features six speakers: a tweeter and a speaker in each front door panel, plus two full-range speakers in the rear. The 160-watt Pioneer AM/FM/CD head unit powers the tweeters, mid-range and full-range speakers.
Additional on-the-go connectivity and on-board navigation is available with the optional BeSpoke Audio system. Push-to-talk voice navigation and geo-located points of interest add convenience to any drive. Aha™, available on iTunes® and Google Play®, provides access to 100,000 free audio stations, including Scion’s own seven signature music channels. Drivers can also find local restaurants, coffee, hotels and weather updates through location–based services like Yelp and TripAdvisor, along with popular social media applications, sports, news and entertainment.
Standard Safety Features
All 2014 xBs come standard with six airbags, including driver and front passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags. Headrests and three-point seat belts support in all seating positions. A tire pressure monitoring system warns drivers when too little air remains in a tire.
The xB comes standard with the STAR Safety SystemTM which includes Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Smart Stop Technology (SST).
The 2014 Scion xB brings together utility, tech comfort and safety features at an affordable price drivers will love. The 2014 Scion xB has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $16,970 with a manual transmission or $17,920 with an automatic transmission. The delivery, processing and handling (DPH) fee for all Scion models is $755 and is not included in the MSRP.
The xB is covered by Scion’s standard three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and five-year/60,000-mile
powertrain warranty. It also comes with Scion Service Boost, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and two years of 24-hour roadside assistance.
