Inside Three of Toyota’s Battery Electric Vehicles: What Drives BEV Performance

This four-part series features three Toyota battery electric vehicles (BEVs) available now – the Toyota bZ, bZ Woodland, and C-HR. This second part focuses on performance. The first part focused on capabilities and the rest of the series will focus on home charging and public charging.

As Toyota continues its multi-pathway vehicle strategy in its growing lineup of BEVs highlights that eco-conscious driving doesn’t mean compromising on an exhilarating journey. The 2027 Toyota bZ, 2027 Toyota bZ Woodland and 2027 Toyota C-HR are helping to move the charge.

With thoughtful engineering and dual-motor eAxles, these vehicles help deliver instant torque, all-wheel-drive capability and engaging handling. From compact SUVs to spacious family vehicles, Toyota’s electric lineup blends quiet refinement with efficient power.

Let’s take a closer look at the performance highlights helping drive Toyota’s electrified future.

 2027 Toyota bZ

In the bZ, Toyota’s BEV e-TNGA platform supports a low center of gravity and a rigid foundation by placing the battery pack flat under the floor. Combined with the battery cross-framing structure, lightweight body construction and dynamic suspension, the architecture is intended to help enhance ride quality, stability and handling precision.

The lightweight and energy-efficient eAxles use silicon carbide semiconductors to help deliver impactful output while maximizing range — delivering 165 total system horsepower on the XLE FWD, 221 total system horsepower on the XLE FWD Plus and Limited FWD, and 338 total system horsepower on available AWD models. Drivers can use the steering wheel paddle shifters to adjust the level of regenerative braking resistance depending on driving preference.

Drivers will notice a smooth ride due to a carefully tuned suspension, intelligent throttle, and Vehicle Stability Control. For year-round capability, available AWD models also tackle challenging roads with specialized features like X-MODE® and low-speed Grip-Control.

From morning commutes and school drop-offs to weekend grocery runs, this BEV adapts to drivers’ daily routines with quiet comfort and practical versatility.

2027 bZ Woodland

Electric motors housed in the front and rear eAxles support the standard all-wheel drive functionality — allowing the 2027 Toyota bZ Woodland to blend electric performance with control. Its flat underfloor battery and rigid cross-framing structure lower the center of gravity — helping to support stable, confident handling.

For tackling tough terrain, standard X-MODE® optimizes wheel braking and power delivery, while its low-speed Grip Control features automatically modulated motor output to maintain a steady pace — allowing drivers to focus on the road ahead.

2027 Toyota C-HR

The 2027 Toyota C-HR BEV combines style with performance, featuring a standard dual-motor AWD system with front and rear eAxles. Delivering a 338 total system horsepower — with 198 lb.-ft. of torque up front and 125 lb.-ft. in the rear — this compact electric SUV launches from 0 to 60 mph in a manufacturer-estimated 4.9 seconds.

Perfect for city living, its smaller footprint helps navigate traffic and tight streets smoothly and with fitting into compact parking spots.

Its coupe-like profile benefits from an underfloor battery and rigid cross-framing that help lower the center of gravity, while specially tuned springs, dampers and anti-roll bars provide an agile and planted drive.

These three BEVs are available now at Toyota dealerships across America. bZ, bZ Woodland and C-HR merge everyday practicality with electric performance demonstrating that BEVs can be exciting and efficient.
