Elizabeth (Liz) Gibson is group vice president and general counsel of Legal, group vice president of Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Sustainability, chief sustainability officer and corporate secretary of Toyota Motor North America.

In her role as general counsel, Gibson serves as strategic advisor, overseeing governance, regulatory compliance, product safety, litigation, commercial risk and ethical business practices.  Prior to the general counsel position, she served as vice president and deputy general counsel, with responsibility for complex litigation, product liability, government investigations, risk mitigation, intellectual property, franchise/dealer issues and regulatory compliance. She also served as vice president of Compliance & Audit and chief compliance counsel with responsibility for compliance and ethics, internal investigations, risk finance and insurance, risk assessment and mitigation.

As chief sustainability officer and head of Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Sustainability, Gibson’s responsibilities include strategy for NA sustainability and environmental policy, motor vehicle safety and environmental regulations, and enterprise chemical management.  As corporate secretary, Gibson manages corporate governance.

Gibson has led significant global and cross-functional initiatives operating at the intersection of law, environmental policy, compliance, automotive regulation and corporate governance.

Prior to joining Toyota in 2006, Gibson practiced entertainment and intellectual property law in Los Angeles, California. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
