WASHINGTON, DC, Oct. 23, 2014 — Toyota announced today the appointment of Tanya Vazquez in a newly created position of Senior Manager of State Government Affairs in Texas as another milestone in the company’s plan to build its new North American headquarters in the state. She will be based in Austin, the state capitol.
“Tanya has a keen understanding of the political landscape in Texas, which will be essential in helping us establish deeper roots within the state,” said Stephen Ciccone, group vice president of Toyota Government Affairs. “Her experience will help us build important bipartisan relationships throughout the state,” he said.
Earlier this year, Toyota announced that over the next three years, its four North American headquarters for manufacturing, sales and marketing, financial services and corporate operations will unify in a single, shared campus, in Plano, Texas.
“I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work for such a great company and make a positive contribution as it moves to Texas,” said Vazquez.
Before joining Toyota, Vazquez was with the Texas Department of Transportation, where she served as the liaison between the agency and state legislature on border, traffic operations, and maintenance activities.
Her vast experience included time as the chief of staff and legislative director for state senator Donna Campbell and state representative Trey Martinez Fischer. She also worked on tax issues with the state House Ways and Means Committee. Before her government career, Vazquez worked for several major corporations in the banking and hotel industries.
Vazquez has an MBA degree from Baylor University. She attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated with honors from the University of North Texas. She lives in Austin, Texas.
