Toyota Leads All Manufacturers with Three Models Ranked in Top 10 of Lowest Insurance Claims for Theft

Toyota led all manufacturers with the most models ranked in the top 10 for lowest insurance claims for stolen vehicles.  The three models included the Prius Hybrid, Tacoma 4×4 Double Cab pickup truck and Sienna all-wheel-drive van.  
 
The overall theft losses take into account not only the rate at which insurance claims are filed but also the size of the payments for claims.  The 10 top-ranked vehicles have overall theft losses of less than 15 percent of the average claims.  The average payment for a theft claim for the 10 best vehicles was less than one-third of the overall average.  
 
The rankings were published by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  The rankings covered insurance theft losses for 2007-09 passenger vehicles.
