Kevin Hunter is president of Toyota Motor Corporation’s North American design studio, Calty Design Research. Hunter is responsible for overseeing research, advanced design and production design at studios in Newport Beach, Calif., and Ann Arbor, Mich.
Calty creates innovative vehicle designs for the Toyota and Lexus brands. The most recent accomplishments under Hunter’s direction are the 2012 Lexus LF-LC concept which became the 2018 Lexus LC 500, 2014 Toyota FT-1 Sports car concept which became the 2020 Supra, 2021 Lexus Electrified Sport, 2022 Toyota Tundra, 2023 Toyota Sequoia, 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Hunter was appointed president in 2007 and is the first American to serve in this role. Prior to that he held various design positions including vice president and chief designer. Hunter was selected as one of BusinessWeek’s 2011 Masters of Innovation and was invited as an influential speaker to the 2013 Bloomberg Next Big Thing Summit.
Hunter was born in Detroit, Michigan and has a Bachelor of Fine Art in Transportation Design from The College for Creative Studies.
