The post 2020 Toyota Yaris Sedan Throws “Entry Level” A Premium Curveball appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>How many entry sedans come standard with a Low-Speed Pre-Collision System? Yaris has it, in every grade. Low-Speed Pre-Collision System scans the road ahead for potential vehicle collisions. If the system detects a potential frontal collision, an audio/visual alert and braking assistance are designed to automatically activate. Should the driver not respond, this system may automatically apply the brakes.
For 2020, the affordable, fun Yaris sedan adds standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility in all model grades. The new tech makes the standard 7-inch multimedia system, which features voice recognition, even more versatile.
Toyota offers the Yaris sedan in three grades, including the sporty, high-value L, the LE grade with more amenities, and the premium XLE grade with luxury features. “Premium” certainly seems like a fitting description for a tight-handling, fun-to-drive sedan equipped with leatherette-trimmed front seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake, automatic climate control system, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers and illuminated entry.
The first thing you notice about the Yaris Sedan is that you notice it. The dynamic, coupe-like profile cuts through the air with slippery aerodynamic efficiency, while distinctive details ensure it stands apart in its class. Piano black accents and chrome trim add an upscale vibe. The Yaris color palette brings out the best in the stylish body, with a choice from seven colors including Frost, Chromium, Graphite, Stealth, Sapphire, Pulse and Icicle.
Fog lights, a rear lip spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels with dark gunmetal finish give the Yaris LE and XLE grades a particularly sporty stance. Every Yaris grade is fitted with a roof-mounted, color-keyed shark fin antenna for available satellite radio. Power outside mirrors come standard on the L, while the LE and XLE are equipped with power outside heated mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators.
Efficiency Can Be Fun
The energetic and sporty Yaris sedan is a blast to drive, thanks to its high-compression, quick-revving 1.5-liter double overhead-cam (DOHC) four-cylinder engine that doles out 106 horsepower and 103 lb.-ft. of torque. There’s plenty of pep for highway onramps and to seamlessly navigate workday traffic. The standard 6-speed manual transmission is a joy to operate, thanks to a lightweight design with a short-throw shifter for smooth, quick gear changes. The available 6-speed automatic transmission cracks off quick, smooth shifts and raises the fun factor with a driver-selectable Sport mode.
With either transmission, Yaris has impressive fuel economy estimates: 32 MPG city / 40 MPG highway / 35 MPG combined with the available 6-speed automatic, and 30 MPG city / 39 MPG highway / 34 MPG combined with the 6-speed stick.
Sporty handling is engineered into the chassis with effective use of high-tensile steel in the structure. The MacPherson strut front suspension and responsive torsion beam rear suspension deliver a sport sedan driving experience that feels solid, agile and smooth – again, defying the “entry” label and price.
The electronic power steering is designed for smooth, effortless operation. For more spirited driving, Sport Mode provides improved steering feel at the flip of a switch. The braking system is tuned to deliver progressive feedback when cornering; the pedal gives a cushioned feel that gets progressively more rigid as G-force rises. That’s a feature one might expect on a $35,000 sport sedan, but the Yaris MSRP starts under $16,000.
Exceptional Value in Three Grades
Casting the “entry” positioning to the wind, every Yaris features a 7.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system with voice recognition, remote interface, steering wheel controls and Bluetooth connectivity. The touchscreen also displays the standard backup camera. A 6-speaker sound system fills the Yaris cabin with rich sound, and with plenty of choices for music sources. Yaris includes available satellite radio with a 3-month complimentary SiriusXM® All Access trial. An integrated AM/FM antenna, auxiliary audio jack and USB port with iPod® connectivity complete the package.
All Yaris sedans feature a stylish instrumentation cluster that includes an analog speedometer, digital tachometer and trip meter. A standard 60/40-split rear seat easily expands carrying capacity and versatility. Push button start, cruise control, and power windows with driver-side auto up/down and jam protection are standard on all Yaris sedans. The L grade features a remote keyless entry system while both the LE and XLE are equipped with Smart Key System.
High Standard of Safety
The standard Low-Speed Pre-Collision System is just one part of Yaris sedan’s safety credentials. Every Yaris is equipped with an Active Safety System that includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and a Brake Override System (BOS).
A driver and front passenger airbag system and seat-mounted side airbags are standard, as are front and rear side curtain airbags. Other standard safety features include a driver-side Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR), and Automatic/Emergency Locking Retractor (ALR/ELR) on all passenger belts. Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) are also fitted on outboard rear seats, with tethers and anchors on all rear seats. A Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) is equipped on all grades.
Limited Warranty and ToyotaCare
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. The Yaris also comes standard with ToyotaCare, a plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 24-hour roadside assistance, unlimited mileage.

]]>The post All-New 2020 Toyota Yaris Adventure: Answering the Question Nobody Asked appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>Capitalizing on consumers flocking to the small crossover segment, Yaris Adventure answers the question that nobody asked. It’s part truck, part sedan, but 100 percent awesome. Toyota sells every mid- and full-size truck that hits the lot, but Yaris Adventure will fill the void of a subcompact pickup segment that has never truly existed because … well, no one realized they needed it until now. The Yaris Adventure comes complete with a two-seat cabin with storage space behind the seats. The extra cab with rear seating was ditched because it was determined that no one really wants to sit back there anyway. Meanwhile, in the back, a composite inner bed ensures cargo capacity for the most moderate jobs. The Yaris Adventure combines the comfort and fuel economy of a sedan with ideal cargo space, but not so much that friends will ask you to help them move.
“Toyota is very excited to debut this product that nobody saw coming,” said a senior executive at Toyota who preferred to remain anonymous. “We’re constantly listening to our customers and reacting to the market. We have to blame the market on this one, as we haven’t had one customer ask for a truck like this.”
Creating a segment
Just like the RAV4 created the small SUV segment in 1994, the Yaris Adventure creates the subcompact pickup segment. The 52.3-inch bed has a payload of 297 lbs., perfect for hauling coolers to the lake or that third set of golf clubs that just won’t fit in a car trunk (not sure why you’d have three sets of golf clubs though, as the Yaris Adventure only seats two).
Class-Leading Everything
The Yaris Adventure leads its segment in everything.* It comes standard with a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that delivers 103 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque, both top of its class.* Its 7.6-inch ground clearance and 42.5-inch legroom are also class-leading. There isn’t a spec on the Yaris Adventure that doesn’t come out on top.*
Fun fact: The Yaris Adventure is the only vehicle with a bed that doesn’t come with a full-size spare tire.
*Yaris Adventure is the only truck in the subcompact truck segment.
Won’t Blend In
A bold, passenger-first design gives the 2020 Yaris Adventure a distinct look. The front end projects a gutsy attitude with a hexagon lower front grille and sharp-eyed headlamps. The automatic LED headlamps incorporate daytime running lights, which pair perfectly with the aggressive front bumper complete with tow hooks, perfect for getting pulled out of a situation the vehicle shouldn’t have been in to begin with.
At 167.2 inches long, the Yaris Adventure Grade can fit into parking spaces that most other truck owners have to pass up. That’s a real bonus for urban dwellers, even though Yaris Adventure was made to leave the city (via highway).
Straying from the Pavement
Yaris Adventure off-roading excursions will begin and end with dirt roads. All Yaris Adventures are equipped with coil-spring double wishbone front suspension and leaf spring rear suspensions. This suspension, paired with a 7.6-inch ground clearance, is perfect for taking a curb in a mall parking lot or clearing the shrubs when parking in a friend’s front yard.
The Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD that was recently introduced on the 2019 RAV4 will not come standard on Yaris Adventure. It will, however, offer a newly developed AWD system capable of allowing Yaris owners to carefully bring their vehicles out of their underground garage when it snows in the city.
Surrounded by Sound
The standard 7-inch Display Audio system delivers clear, powerful sound played through two speakers, one in each door. Maximizing connectivity and control, the system is equipped with one USB media port and Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and music streaming.
Here’s another surprise from the 2020 Yaris Adventure: no navigation (because anyone smart enough to drive the Yaris Adventure knows exactly where they’re going).
Warranty
Due to the extensive testing done on Yaris Adventure, a warranty won’t be offered for this truck because it would be unthinkable that something goes wrong. However, roadside assistance will be offered, as it’s likely the truck will get stuck if it veers too far off road.

]]>The Yaris sedan, previously the Yaris iA, will be offered in three grades for 2019, including the sporty L, the well-equipped LE grade, and the new premium XLE grade. Premium, on a Yaris? That’s right. The XLE takes Yaris up a notch with sporty leatherette-trimmed front seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake, an HVAC system with Automatic Climate Control, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and illuminated entry.
For 2019, all Yaris sedans will feature a new sport-inspired front grille with a honeycomb insert design. Exterior styling cues include upscale piano black accents and chrome trim. Fog lights come standard on the LE and XLE grades, and these grades also sport a new rear lip spoiler. Every grade is fitted with a roof-mounted, color-keyed shark fin antenna for available satellite radio. Power outside mirrors come standard on the L, while the LE and XLE are equipped with power outside heated mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators.
Safety is a priority on every Toyota, and that’s why all Yaris sedans comes standard with an Active Safety System and Low-Speed Pre-Collision System. The Yaris features a high-compression 1.5-liter engine that boasts up to 40 miles per gallon (MPG) on the highway*.
The Yaris sedan will be offered in seven colors that include Frost, Chromium, Graphite, Stealth, Sapphire, Pulse and the all-new Icicle. The new Yaris will go on sale in the fall of 2018.
Efficiency is Key
There’s no question that fuel economy is high atop the list of must-haves for Yaris. When the direct-injection 1.5-liter engine is paired with the available 6-speed automatic transmission, the Yaris boasts an impressive 32 MPG in the city, 40 on the highway and 35 combined*. When paired with the six-speed manual gearbox offering, the Yaris provides 30 mpg in the city, 39 on the highway and 34 combined*.
The sporty Yaris sedan is a blast to drive, thanks in large part to the engine and transmission offerings. The 1.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine pumps out 106 horsepower and 103 lb.-ft. of torque for plenty of pep to power onto highway onramps and seamlessly navigate workday traffic. The standard manual transmission features a compact, lightweight design with a short-throw shift for smooth, quick gear changes. The available automatic transmission aids in smooth starts while offering quick, precise shifts at higher speeds.
Value Doesn’t Sacrifice Fun
Yaris’ sporty handling is engineered into the chassis with effective use of high-tensile steel in the body and frame. The rigid chassis design is complemented with a pairing of stiff springs and MacPherson struts on the front suspension and a durable torsion beam suspension in the rear.
The electronic power steering is designed for smooth, effortless operation. For more spirited driving, Sport Mode provides improved torque feel at the flip of a switch. Stopping duties are handled by ventilated discs up front and drum brakes in the rear. The braking system is tuned with a progressive experience when cornering, as the pedal offers a cushioned feel that gets progressively more rigid as G-force rises. The LE and XLE feature a unique 16-inch alloy wheel with new dark gunmetal finish.
It’s What’s Inside that Counts
Upping the ante on interior comfort and features, every Yaris features a 7.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system with voice recognition, remote interface, steering wheel controls and Bluetooth connectivity. The touchscreen also displays the standard backup camera. Belting out tunes in the cabin is a six-speaker sound system, and each Yaris includes available satellite radio with a 3-month complimentary SiriusXM® All Access trial. An integrated AM/FM antenna, auxiliary audio jack and USB port with iPod® connectivity are standard.
Every Yaris comes equipped with a stylish instrumentation cluster that includes an analog speedometer, digital tachometer and incorporated trip meter. Cruise control also comes standard. Push button start is standard on all grades, and the L grade features a remote keyless entry system while both the LE and XLE are equipped with Smart Key System. Every Yaris is fitted with power windows with driver-side auto up/down and jam protection. A standard 60/40-split rear seat easily expands carrying capacity and versatility.
Standard Safety System
Every Yaris is equipped with an Active Safety System that includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and a Brake Over-Ride System (BOS).
The Yaris is also fitted with a Low-Speed Pre-Collision System, which scans the road ahead for potential vehicle collisions. If the system detects a potential frontal collision, an audio/visual alert and braking assistance are designed to automatically activate. Should the driver not respond, this system may automatically apply the brakes.
A driver and front passenger airbag system and seat-mounted side airbags are standard, as are front and rear side curtain airbags. Other standard safety features include a Driver-side Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) and Automatic/Emergency Locking Retractor (ALR/ELR) on all passenger belts. Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) is also standard on outboard rear seats with tethers and anchors on all rear seats. A Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) also is equipped on all grades.
Limited Warranty
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. Standard ToyotaCare covers complimentary normal factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Two years of roadside assistance coverage is also provided with each new purchase. Valid only in the continental U.S. & Alaska.
*2019 Yaris preliminary 32/city, 40/hwy, 35/comb mpg (automatic transmission), 30/city, 39/hwy, 34/comb mpg (manual transmission) estimates determined by Toyota. EPA estimates not available at time of publishing. Actual mileage will vary.

]]>Once again offered in three-door and five-door body styles, the Yaris is also big on practicality. Each body configuration is offered in two grades, L and LE, in addition to the five-door sporty SE. A manual transmission is available on the three-door L and five-door SE.
The 2018 Yaris gets a fresh new face with a bolder front grille and updated headlight design. The L and LE grille features a chrome accent, while the sporty SE debuts a unique front fascia with piano black mesh grille and chrome trim. The updated rear design now has wider horizontal tail lamps and a revised lower bumper, giving the Yaris a wider-looking “hot hatch” stance. The SE turns up the hot hatch look even more with new projector-beam headlights and 16-inch machined alloy wheels having dark accents. New colors accentuate the edgier looks, including Blue Eclipse Metallic (replacing Blue Streak Metallic) and a new two-tone, Blue Eclipse Metallic with Black Sand Pearl roof (replacing Crushed Ice/Black Sand Pearl roof).
Audio and convenience updates abound are inside the 2018 Yaris, as well. All grades have an integrated backup camera display with projected path function. The L grade receives a standard three-spoke tilt steering wheel with audio controls. Both the L and LE grades feature the same comprehensive analog instrumentation as the SE. The sporty instrument panel includes speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge; LCD display with odometer, trip meters, clock, outside temperature, current/average fuel economy, distance to empty, average speed and shift position; ECO-driving indicator; and warning messages (automatic transmission only).
The L and LE grades feature an Entune Multimedia bundle that includes a 6.1-in. touch screen display, AM/FM/CD player, MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, auxiliary input jack, USB 2.0 port with iPod connectivity and control, advanced voice recognition, hands-free phone capability, phone book access, and music streaming via Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free.
Yaris SE gets a big-car kind of audio upgrade with standard Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation App using a 7-in. high-resolution touch screen, Connected Navigation Scout GPS Link App, SiriusXM Satellite Radio with 3-month complimentary All Access trial and Gracenote album cover art, HD Radio and HD Radio Traffic, and Weather in major metro areas.
Euro Designed, Euro Built
Designed and assembled in France, the Yaris has quite the international pedigree. Stretching just 155.5 inches from bumper to bumper, the Yaris can scoot through urban landscapes with ease, aided by a class-leading 31.5-ft. turning circle (three-door model). Yet, Yaris offers a very roomy cabin. The five-door model offers up to 15.6 cu. ft. of carrying space (15.3 cu. ft. for three-door) behind the rear seats. Of course, there’s significantly more carrying room with the 60/40 rear seatbacks lowered.
Yaris gets its solid road feel from a rigid body structure that also forms the foundation for a quiet ride. The chiseled bodylines are designed for aerodynamic goodness, as exemplified by its 0.30 coefficient of drag (Cd). Specially shaped side mirrors help to reduce drag and wind noise too.
Premium noise-control features make the Yaris a quieter cruiser. An acoustic glass windshield and foam-type sound insulation material injected into hollow structural spaces help block outside noise. Rocker panel protectors, asphalt sheets for the floor panel and silencers for the floor tunnel help cut road noise.
The Yaris rides on front MacPherson-strut and rear torsion-beam suspension systems, with the SE grade getting its own special sport tuning, four-wheel disc brakes and 16-inch wheels for a more agile feel.
Economical Scoot
Yaris makes saving on fuel fun with a smooth-revving 1.5-liter, 16-valve, four-cylinder DOHC engine. It’s a responsive performer, with 106 hp at 6,000 rpm and 103 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. And, thanks to variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i), the engine produces a broad torque curve to give the Yaris an eager feel in everyday driving.
For those who still prefer to shift their own gears, the Yaris L three-door and SE are available with a slick-shifting five-speed manual transmission, featuring an easy-effort hydraulic clutch. A four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission is available and is standard on LE.
EPA estimates city/highway/combined fuel economy to be 30/36/33 miles-per-gallon for the manual transmission-equipped Yaris, and 30/35/32 for grades equipped with the automatic.
Making the Grade for Toyota Value
The Yaris’ mono-spec grades – L, LE, and SE – eliminate option packages, and in the Toyota tradition, standard equipment is comprehensive.
The Yaris L comes equipped with air conditioning, sport-tuned electric power steering, three-spoke tilt steering wheel, power door locks with illuminated entry, cargo area cover and lamp, power windows with driver’s side auto up/down, and color-keyed folding outside mirrors. LE adds power mirrors, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, and a remote keyless entry system with engine immobilizer. Cabin comfort is maximized in the SE with its inclusion of all LE interior upgrades, plus sport-fabric trimmed seats with contrast white stitching, leather-trimmed tilt shift lever and three-spoke steering wheel, and piano black interior trim accents.
Look closely for special details. For example, the innovative wet-arm windshield washer system sprays washer fluid from the base of the wiper arm directly into the blade’s path for improved cleaning. All Yaris grades also come standard with a rear window wiper. Should the driver should forget to turn off the headlights, when the ignition is switched off, they’ll automatically shut off after 20 minutes of nonuse to help prevent a dead battery.
Quality at Every Touch
The feeling of solidity and quality carries through to the Yaris cabin, where high-quality soft-touch materials convey a “class above” look and feel. Quality lives in the details, too. For example, a glovebox damper lets the compartment open with a smoothness seen on luxury models. Dual extendable sun visors with vanity mirrors are among features not always standard in this class.
The LE and SE grades feature bright trim around the instrument gauges and shifter bezel. Plenty of storage compartments, including numerous small pockets around the driver’s seat, can keep digital devices and other personal items out of sight.
Other Safety Features
While Toyota Safety Sense C gives Yaris advanced driver-assist technologies, the high-quality Yaris has the safety basics covered, too. Collision protection starts with an impact-absorbing body structure that makes wide use of high-tensile strength steel to help absorb and distribute collision forces. All Yaris models come equipped with nine SRS airbags, including:
The Advanced Whiplash Injury-Lessening (WIL) front-seat structure helps to ensure that the region from the head to the lower back is supported, helping to reduce whiplash-type injuries during certain types of rear end collisions.
The 2018 Yaris features the Star Safety System, which includes:
Warranty and Care

Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against corrosion with no mileage limitation. ]]>Sienna, the top-selling van in the U.S. for the past two years, is assembled in America’s heartland at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Princeton, Ind. It is an ideal family-friendly van, with a choice of seven- or eight seat cabin configurations, ample cargo space and an array of safety, comfort and convenience features. Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 producing 296 horsepower and 263 lb.-ft. of torque, Sienna is available in L, LE, SE, XLE and Limited grades. For active families on the go, Sienna remains the only van in the segment with available all-wheel-drive (AWD).
The fuel-efficient Yaris hatchback represents a great value for buyers on a budget as it is the Toyota brand’s least expensive model, yet it is equipped with many standard safety and convenience features. Among the many standard carryover safety features is Toyota Safety Sense- C™ (TSS-C), a trio of driver-assist technologies that helps drivers get from point “A” to point “B” with safety assurance. TSS-C technologies include Toyota’s Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.
Yaris offers both three-door and five-door body styles in two grades, L and LE, in addition to the five-door Sporty SE.
Neither Sienna, nor Yaris rests on its laurels for 2018.
Sienna Swagger
One year after the 2017 model year Sienna van ushered in a powerful and efficient new powertrain and led the segment in 2016 calendar year sales, the 2018 model adds many styling, and technological safety and convenience features.
For 2018, TSS-P will be standard on all Sienna models. This multi-feature advanced active safety suite bundles cutting edge active safety technologies including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA); and Automatic High Beams (AHB).
Sienna drivers will enjoy enhanced connectivity and entertainment through the new Toyota Entune™ 3.0 multimedia system on all models, offering an enhanced set of connected vehicle technologies.
The Entune 3.0 system will feature navigation and App Suite Connect for everyone. The Sienna L, LE, SE and XLE grades will come standard with the Connected Navigation Scout GPS Link with Moving Maps. Sienna LE, SE, and XLE grades will come standard with the Entune Audio Plus, which includes Safety Connect, and Wi-Fi Connect. WiFi Connect will allow up to five mobile devices to connect using 4G LTE.
For those wanting it all, the Limited comes standard with Entune™ 3.0 Premium JBL Audio with Dynamic Navigation and Destination Assist and features new advancements in sound quality. Sound enhancements include Sound Staging, which positions speakers directly in front of the listener to help emulate a live concert venue; Low Frequency Sounds, made possible by an added 10.1-inch subwoofer; Clari-Fi, a technology that “un-compresses” music to help restore an audio track’s dynamic range; and nine speakers that are specifically tuned to cabin dimensions and materials.
Additional technology updates include:
Exterior styling is updated with a redesigned front fascia that includes a larger, lower grille and a larger fog light compartment to convey a stronger presence. Like the current Sienna SE grade, side lower rockers have also been added to all grades for a sportier appearance. Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) improvements have been added to the SE grade with a laminated front windshield, and the Limited grade with new acoustic front row side glass.
The 2018 Sienna also offers nine exterior colors, including three new choices: Toasted Walnut Pearl, Alumina Jade Metallic, and Parisian Night Pearl.

]]>The post 2017 Toyota Yaris Puts Big Safety in a Small Car with Standard Toyota Safety Sense-C appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>The 2017 Toyota Yaris is a small car with very big news. The brand’s least expensive model, the Yaris for 2017 is also the brand’s latest vehicle to come standard with Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C), a trio of driver assist technologies that help drivers get from point “A” to point “B” with safety assurance. Yaris offers both three-door and five-door body styles.
Toyota Safety Sense C is designed to help address three key areas of driver assistance: preventing or mitigating frontal collisions, helping keep drivers within their lane, and to help enhance road safety during nighttime driving. Technologies include Toyota’s Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams. Yaris is the first entry subcompact in the segment to standardize these key safety features across all grades.
Toyota had announced at the 2016 New York International Auto Show that it would make Toyota Safety Sense standard on nearly all models by the end of 2017. That will put Toyota (and Lexus) four years ahead of the model-year 2022 industry target announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
That’s the serious side of Yaris for 2017. On the fun side, this European-designed model will offer a vibrant new color, Ruby Flare Pearl, a premium paint imbued with large metallic flakes. For the total custom look, this color will also be available in combination with a Black Sand Pearl roof.
Euro Look, Euro Agility
If the Yaris looks like one of those intriguing, fun European compacts you wish they’d offer in the U.S., that’s because it is. Yaris emerged from Toyota’s ED2 design studio in the South of France, and Toyota also assembles the Yaris in France. Stretching just 155.5 inches from bumper to bumper, the Yaris can scoot through urban landscapes with ease, aided by a class-leading 31.5-ft. turning circle (three-door model).
With its ultra-short overhangs and wheels pushed out to the corners, the Yaris offers a very roomy cabin. The five-door model offers up to 15.6 cu. ft. of carrying space (15.3 for three-door) behind the rear seats, about the size of a midsize sedan’s trunk. There’s significantly more carrying room with the 60/40 rear seatbacks lowered.
Quietude with Attitude
The Yaris gets its solid road feel from a rigid body structure that also forms the foundation for a quiet ride. The chiseled bodylines are designed for aerodynamic goodness, with the car’s 0.30 coefficient of drag (Cd) and even specially shaped side mirrors helping to reduce drag and wind noise.
To further keep noise at bay, the Yaris uses an acoustic glass windshield, and foam-type sound insulation material injected into hollow structural spaces helps in blocking outside noise. Rocker panel protectors, asphalt sheets for the floor panel and silencers for the floor tunnel help cut road noise.
The Yaris rides on front MacPherson-strut and rear torsion-beam suspension systems, with the SE grade getting its own special sport tuning and larger wheels for a more agile feel. The Yaris SE rolls on very sporty 16-inch alloy wheels with P195/50R16 tires; all other models have 15-inch wheels (steel with wheel covers on L and alloy on LE). On all Yaris models, you’ll never need to check messy hydraulic power steering fluid, because there isn’t any. Instead, the Yaris uses sport-tuned electric power steering, which also helps contribute to better fuel efficiency.
Low Cost Scoot
Yaris makes saving on fuel costs fun with a smooth-revving 1.5-liter, 16-valve, four-cylinder DOHC engine. With 106 hp at 6,000 rpm and 103 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm, it’s an eager performer. And, thanks to variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i), the engine produces a broad torque curve to give the Yaris great responsiveness in everyday driving.
For those who still like to row their own gears, the Yaris L three-door and SE are available with a slick-shifting five-speed manual transmission, featuring an easy-effort hydraulic clutch. A four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission is available and is standard on LE. EPA estimated city/highway/combined mpg with a manual transmission is 30/37/33 MPG and 30/36/32 MPG for models equipped with the automatic.
Toyota Quality at Every Touch
The feeling of solidity and quality carries through to the Yaris cabin, where high-quality soft-touch materials convey a “class above” look and feel. Quality lives in the details, too. For example, a glovebox damper lets the compartment open with a smoothness seen on luxury models. Dual extendable sun visors with vanity mirrors are a convenience some entry cars leave out. The LE and SE grades feature bright trim around the instrument gauges and shifter bezel.
The instrument gauge cluster looks sporty and offers lots of functionality. Below the large speedometer, an LCD multi-information display includes functions for odometer, trip meter, clock, outside temperature, fuel economy and average speed. Plenty of storage compartments, including numerous small pockets around the driver’s seat, can keep digital devices and other personal items out of sight.
Toyota Value in Every Grade
The Yaris three- and five-door models come in L and LE grades, and five-door also offers the sporty SE grade. The mono-spec trims eliminate option packages, and in the Toyota tradition, standard equipment is comprehensive. The Yaris L starts with air conditioning, sport-tuned electric power steering, three-spoke tilt steering wheel, power door locks with illuminated entry, cargo area cover and lamp, power windows with driver’s side auto up/down, and color-keyed folding outside mirrors. The LE adds the convenience of power mirrors, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls and a remote keyless entry system with engine immobilizer.
In all Yaris models, the standard Entune Audio system includes a 6.1-inch touch screen, an AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, HD Radio with iTunes® Tagging, auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPod® connectivity and control, hands-free phone capability, voice recognition, and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology. A navigation system is an available port- or dealer-installed option.
Also in the Toyota tradition, the 2017 Yaris features details that the owner appreciates more and more as the years go by. Take the wide-sweeping single windshield wiper design, for example. Its innovative wet-arm washer system sprays washer fluid from the base of the wiper arm directly into the blade’s path for improved cleaning. And, all Yaris models come standard with a rear window wiper. There’s even a feature that automatically turns off any interior lights after 20 minutes if the ignition is switched off to help prevent a dead battery.
Yaris SE: Looking Sporty, Driving Sporty
The SE grade delivers an extra dose of fun on the daily commute, thanks to sport-tuned suspension, machined spoke 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/50R16 tires and four-wheel disc brakes. The black front grille with a piano black accent, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, black exterior trim, black headlight trim and LED daytime running lights give the SE a distinctly sporty attitude. Cabin comfort moves up in the SE with all the LE interior upgrades plus leather-trimmed tilt shift lever and three-spoke steering wheel, piano black interior trim accents and contrasting white stitching on the seats.
Big Safety, and Nine Airbags
Protection in a collision in the 2017 Yaris starts with an impact-absorbing body structure that makes wide use of high-tensile strength steel to help absorb and distribute collision forces.
Like all Toyota vehicles, the 2017 Yaris features the Star Safety System, which includes:
Toyota Safety Sense-C (TSS-C)
The Toyota Safety Sense-C system, standard in the 2017 Yaris, combines a trio of advanced safety technologies.
Pre-collision System (PCS), which operates at vehicle speeds of approximately 7 to 85 mph, is designed to detect a vehicle ahead using a camera and laser beam. If PCS determines there is a possibility of a collision, it uses audio and visual alerts to prompt the driver to take evasive action and brake.
If the driver notices the hazard and applies the brakes, PCS may provide additional braking force using Brake Assist. If the driver does not brake in a set time, and PCS determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with another vehicle is extremely high, the system may automatically apply the brakes, reducing speed by up to 19 mph under certain conditions to help the driver reduce the impact and in certain cases avoid a collision.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA) is designed to use a camera to detect visible white and yellow lane markings in front of the vehicle and the vehicle’s position on the road. If LDA determines that the vehicle is starting to unintentionally deviate from its lane, the system alerts the driver with an audio and visual alert.
Automatic High Beam (AHB), at speeds above approximately 25 mph, is designed to use an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of vehicles traveling ahead, automatically switching between high and low beams as appropriate.
Toyota Quality, Warranty and Care
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-car warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against corrosion with no mileage limitation.
The Yaris also comes standard with Toyota Care, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

]]>The post 2016 Toyota Yaris Has That Suave European Look, and the Value Looks Great, Too appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>The Euro look is the real deal: the Yaris was designed in Toyota’s ED2 design studio in the South of France. Toyota also builds the new Yaris in France, giving this little car a bit of international intrigue. With its low windshield angle, short overhangs and wheels pushed out to the corners, the Yaris looks ready to pounce on the road, but beneath the crisp lines is a smooth-riding machine. The horizontal chrome grille trim and large grille opening create a sporty face and a line to other Toyota cars.
European cities are known for some narrow streets, where, when you see a home that’s got “old world charm,” it might mean it was built 400 years ago! The considerably more modern Yaris easily navigates such historic paths and those closer to home quite adroitly thanks to a class-leading 31.5-ft. turning circle (3-door model).
The bold look of the Yaris also brings a new, more vibrant attitude in tune with the car’s customers. The choice of 3-door and 5-door body styles remains an exclusive in the segment. Behind the rear seats, there’s up to 15.6 cu. ft. of carrying space (in the five-door model), which increases significantly when the seatbacks are lowered.
Silence is Golden – but Affordable
The rigid body structure and sporty suspension tuning endow the Yaris with sporty agility and a smooth, quiet ride that customers of all ages can appreciate. The quietness comes also from an acoustic glass windshield and strategically placed sound -absorbing and sound-insulating materials throughout the car. Wind-cheating aerodynamics, including the car’s 0.30 coefficient of drag (Cd), and specially shaped side mirrors help to cut both drag and wind noise.
Rocker panel protectors, asphalt sheets for the floor panel and silencers for the floor tunnel help cut road noise, and under-hood insulators block engine noise from entering the cabin. Foam-type sound insulation material injected into hollow structural spaces blocks outside noise.
Fun Yet Frugal
Fun, functionality and frugality come together in the Toyota Yaris. The smooth-revving 1.5-liter, 16-valve, four-cylinder DOHC engine equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) produces 106 hp at 6,000 rpm and 103 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. The broad torque curve makes those numbers seem even bigger when you’re driving the Yaris, which offers snappy response with either transmission.
A smooth-shifting five-speed manual transmission, made smoother by a hydraulic clutch, is standard on the L grade. An available four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission features a compact, lightweight design and low friction for high fuel efficiency. EPA estimated city/highway/combined mpg with a manual transmission is 30/37/33 and 30/36/32 for models equipped with the automatic.
The more rigid body structure, together with retuned suspension, provide for a smoother, more confident ride. The Yaris rides on front MacPherson-strut and rear torsion-beam suspension systems. Sport-tuned electric power steering helps make the Yaris nimble and easy to park on crowded city streets, and there’s no hydraulic fluid to ever check or replace. The Yaris L rides on 15-inch steel wheels and the LE comes with 15-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Get Sporty: Yaris SE
The SE grade gives the Yaris an especially sporty look with its black front grille with piano black accent, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, black exterior trim, black headlight trim and machined spoke 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/50R16 tires. Also, on the SE grade other drivers see you more easily thanks to new LED daytime running lights, a touch inherited from luxury models. The SE adds performance function, too with four-wheel disc brakes.
Inside, the leather-trimmed tilt three-spoke steering wheel includes audio controls and standard cruise control.
Nine Airbags
The Yaris packs big safety into a small package. Protection in a collision starts with an impact-absorbing body structure that makes wide use of high-tensile strength steel to effectively absorb and distribute collision forces. The 2016 Yaris models have nine SRS airbags, including:
Like all Toyota vehicles, the 2016 Yaris features the Star Safety System™, which includes:
The Advanced Whiplash Injury-Lessening (WIL) front-seat structure helps to ensure that the region from the head to the lower back are equally supported, helping to reduce whiplash-type injuries during certain types of rear end collisions.
Firm Where Needed, Soft Where It Counts
Toyota imbued the new-generation Yaris with a feeling of solidity and quality throughout. That feeling carries through to even small details that make for a pleasant ownership experience. The glovebox damper, for example, lets the compartment open with a smoothness seen on luxury models. Dual extendable sun visors with vanity mirrors are a convenience some entry cars leave out.
The Yaris cabin design clearly defines the driver and front passenger spaces, and the instrument gauge cluster conveys a sporty intent. Below the large speedometer, an LCD multi-information display includes functions for odometer, trip meter, clock, outside temperature, fuel economy, and average speed.
High-quality materials throughout the Yaris cabin set the tone for an overall premium feel that feels a “class above.” Soft-touch trim for the instrument panel and front doors feature a leather-like grain to give their surfaces a high-quality look and feel. The LE grade features bright trim around the instrument gauges and shifter bezel. The sporty SE adds piano black interior trim accents, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift lever and contrast white stitching to the seats.
The seats themselves were made a bit larger last year, with a higher front-of-cushion, to ensure comfort for longer drives. The side bolsters were extended higher, too, for a more body-hugging feel. Storage compartments around the cabin, including numerous small pockets around the driver’s seat, keep digital devices and other items secure.
Toyota Value: The Gold Standard
The Yaris comes in L, LE and SE grades, each a mono-spec trim that eliminates option packages. Standard features include air conditioning, sport-tuned electric power steering, 3-spoke tilt steering wheel, power door locks with illuminated entry, cargo area cover and lamp, power windows with driver’s side auto up/down, and color-keyed folding outside mirrors. The Yaris LE adds the convenience of power mirrors, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, and a remote keyless entry system with engine immobilizer.
In all Yaris models, the standard Entune Audio includes a 6.1-inch touch screen, an AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, HD Radio™ with iTunes® Tagging, auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPod® connectivity and control, hands-free phone capability, voice recognition, and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology. A navigation system is an available port, or dealer-installed, option.
Clever details add convenience and value in the Yaris. The wide-sweeping single windshield wiper design uses an innovative wet-arm washer system that sprays washer fluid from the base of the wiper arm directly into the blade’s path for improved cleaning. All models come with a standard rear window wiper.
Anyone who’s ever felt the annoyance and embarrassment of leaving a dome light on overnight, only to find a dead battery the next day, will appreciate that it won’t happen in a 2016 Yaris; an automatic cut-off system will turn off any interior lights after 20 minutes if the ignition is switched off.
Combine all that with big fuel economy estimates and the brand’s penchant for high QDR (Quality, Dependability and Reliability), and you’ve got a stellar small car in the 2016 Toyota Yaris.

]]>The post Widebody DUB Edition Sienna and Yaris Debut at SEMA appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 27, 2014 — DUB Magazine’s latest creations, the DUB Edition Sienna and DUB Edition Yaris, will be on display this year at Toyota’s 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) booth highlighting the versatility of Toyota’s vehicles.
“We’re thrilled with how both of these project vehicles turned out,” said Toyota Engagement Marketing and Motorsports National Manager Steve Appelbaum. “Myles Kovacs and the team at DUB have created two stunning vehicles that speak to the different ways our cars can be personalized in the hands of creative artists.”
The most striking modification to both the DUB Edition Sienna and Yaris is the customized widebody fender flares that dramatically change their profiles. The “DUB look” is aggressive yet clean at the same time. “We wanted these two cars to be wider, sleeker and lower, yet modest enough to look as if they rolled out of the factory this way,” said Kovacs. Designed by DUB and built by 3D Conceptz, the Sienna widebody kit allows for larger 22” x 10.5” TIS536 wheels. On the Yaris, DUB collaborated with TS Designs to replace the front and rear fenders to accommodate a set of 20” x 10” Dropstars DS643 wheels. Featuring a lower suspension setup, TRD Big Brake Kits and custom paint jobs, both vehicles exude the signature swagger for which DUB’s builds are known.
Both the Sienna and Yaris feature custom interiors including carbon-fiber and color-matched accents, aftermarket headliners and new seats. The star of their interiors is the DUB Edition audio package. In the Sienna, this includes six amps, 12 speakers, a custom fiberglass enclosure and six headrest monitors. The Yaris packs in three amps, six speakers, a custom fiberglass enclosure and an iPad to control the system.
When asked what his vision was when designing the pair of vehicles, Kovacs explained that his mindset was “to take it as an art form and express something that I would want to drive every day.”
The DUB Edition Sienna and Yaris can be seen November 4-7 in the Toyota display booth (#24700) located in the Central Hall at the 2014 SEMA Show.
