Michael T. “Mike” Owens is group vice president and chief risk officer at TFS. In this role, Owens is responsible for overseeing TFS’ international affiliates in the Americas Oceania region. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the board of directors for Toyota Financial Savings Bank (TFSB).
Previously, Owens was vice president and chief risk officer of Toyota Financial Services (TFS). In that role, he managed consumer and commercial credit risk, residual value risk and enterprise and operational risk for the Americas Oceania Region. Owens also oversaw the company’s dealer credit function, wholesale, real estate, and commercial lending to Toyota and Lexus dealers in the U.S.
Previously, Owens was president and chief executive officer of TFSB in Henderson, Nev. During his tenure, TFSB generated consistent earnings growth, expanded its financial services offerings, launched a successful credit card program and set a foundation for TFSB’s long-term success by establishing a culture focused on accountability and sound banking practices.
Owens’ other past assignments with TFS include managing Toyota’s $17 billion dealer financing portfolio, managing lending relationships with its largest dealer groups, and developing and implementing strategic initiatives to increase dealer financing.
Owens joined TFS in 2002 and has more than 25 years of experience in credit analysis, risk management, account management, and business development across the auto, home mortgage, commercial, and credit card lines of business. He developed his skills working at some of the most sophisticated institutions in the finance industry, including Mellon Bank, Bank of America, and GE Capital.
Owens holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
