]]>The third-generation Tacoma, with a design inspired by Toyota’s legendary desert race trucks, veritably defines the “work hard, play hard” ethos. Available in 33 different configurations, the 2021 Tacoma offers a model for all seasons and reasons. It also adds more standard equipment across the lineup, providing dual zone auto AC on all V6 models, upgraded audio to allow for premium Remote Services on the TRD Sport and Off-Road.
All Tacoma models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), which includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.
TRD Pro Receives Cosmic New Color
With a striking new debut, the Tacoma TRD Pro model will carry on the new color tradition with the introduction of Lunar Rock for 2021. Replacing Army Green in the TRD Pro color pallet, Lunar Rock will turn heads as customers enjoy all the on and off-road features offered in the lineup. Other available colors on the TRD Pro include: Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic.
2021 Trail Special Edition: Carry In, Carry Out…. In Style
Toyota Tacoma buyers love the great outdoors, and in fact, sit at the top of their segment for participation in outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and hiking. To celebrate and support all that fresh-air fun, Toyota is introducing the 2021 Tacoma Trail Special Edition with an emphasis on extra storage, convenience and unique styling.
The Tacoma Trail will be based on the SR5 and available in both 2WD and 4WD powertrains. Available Trail color choices include Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, and Super White.
All Trails feature black exterior badging, plus black seating with tan stitching. In all versions, standard all-weather floor liners help catch the outdoor elements that come in on occupants’ feet. The 2021 Tacoma Trail also features a set of Dark Gray 16-inch TRD Off-Road wheels with Kevlar All-Terrain tires, and the grille from the Tacoma Limited adds a custom touch. A 120-volt power outlet in the bed adds versatility, and lockable bed storage includes insulation and drain plug on the driver side to double as a cooler.
2021 Tacoma Nightshade Edition: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
With the close of summer comes shorter days and earlier sunsets – the perfect time for the Tacoma Nightshade Edition to make its arrival. While most Toyota Nightshade models are based on SE grade versions, the 2021 Nightshade Tacoma is built on the more luxurious Limited grade model with black leather-trim seating and slightly sinister looking black exterior trim.
The Tacoma Nightshade is distinguished by Dark Smoke 18-inch alloy wheels, black exhaust tip and fog light bezels and a new darkened-chrome grille insert design. The Tacoma Nightshade Edition will also offer the choice of 2WD or 4WD and will look particularly wicked in Midnight Black Metallic or Magnetic Gray Metallic. ]]>February never gets any warmer here does it? Well it’s not only February, it’s also the first big show of the 2020 season, and I couldn’t be happier that we get to kick things off, right here in Chicago.
As I mentioned during the MAMA breakfast this morning, it’s always great to be in my stomping grounds in the Midwest. This area has made me who I am today.
I grew up here, went to DePaul University down the street and spent many years of my Toyota/Lexus career in this Region.
On the same note, Chicago might also be the death of me, thanks to my beloved Bears. Thank God for the Blackhawks and their success and their three recent Stanley Cups.
Needless to say, my passion for sports has led to some damaged TVs over the years. My wife calls it insanity, I call it fandom. Either way … I guess it could be worse.
For those of you from Detroit who follow the Lions or Redwings …I’m sorry.
In all seriousness, though, I’m also very passionate about this industry and of course Toyota.
Which is why I’m so excited to be up here today. We had a fantastic close to 2019 capping off our year with the start of sales for the 2020 Highlander.
And I’m excited to share that the all-new Highlander Hybrid started production in Indiana this week. You know the Highlander nameplate isn’t just hard-hitting, it’s a standout leader in Toyota’s lineup.
Almost think of it as the Dick Butkus or Brian Urlacher for our team.
But seriously, it’s at the top of a segment that is now over 24 models strong. And with that level of competition, we wanted to kick off this year with a bang. Which is why the 2020 Highlander was the hero of our Super Bowl ad on Sunday.
Let’s take a look.
—
Pretty good, right? The response to this all-new Highlander has been amazing. Customers are loving all of the features that it offers.
All-wheel or Front-wheel drive for every model? Check.
Hybrid Front-wheel drive a first in its segment? Check.
Hybrid with Best-in-class fuel economy and over 600 miles of range?
Check and Check. 600 miles – that’s enough to get from here to…well … any place that’s warm.
So even though Highlander has only been out for a month … we’re already taking it to the next level. I’m excited to reveal for the very first time the all-new 2021 Highlander XSE.
—
And there you have it. Pretty nice, huh? As you’ve seen over the past few years the XSE models such as Camry, Avalon, RAV4 and Corolla, bring dedicated styling and performance.
This Highlander XSE achieves just that, bringing a sleek exterior styling package that promises to turn heads.
Rocker panels, a sportier grille, blacked-out accents. Not something you’d expect on a Highlander, right?
Check out these new 20-inch wheels, exclusive to the XSE. Also, you’ll see twin-tip exhaust, a Highlander first.
Moving to the inside, this vibrant red interior immediately catches your attention. This is the boldest interior we’ve ever offered in a Highlander.
When looking at performance, the XSE has an all-new sport-tuned suspension and Dynamic Torque Vectoring on the all-wheel drive powertrain. It will be the best handling Highlander ever.
This Highlander XSE is the full package and now helps round out the complete portfolio. I’m happy to share that it will go on sale fall of this year.
Now, in case any of you missed our news from last night, we have three new Nightshade models.
You can see the 2021 Toyota Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia Nightshade Editions right out here. Now offered on eight of our nameplates, Nightshade continues to drive enhanced styling across the Toyota portfolio.
Like the 4Runner Nightshade already in market, these additions carry premium features and will come equipped with black painted wheels, a darkened chrome grille, blacked-out exterior badging … and more.
Later this summer, our truck and Sequoia enthusiasts can now “Own the Night,” so to speak.
Of course … we want them to “own the day” as well.
You see, truck and SUV owners need versatility in the vehicles they drive. They want a commuter and a hauler – plenty of performance but also plenty of practicality for camping, hiking or even a simple weekend getaway.
So with these customers in mind we designed our new Trail Special Editions. Starting with the Tacoma, the first feature I’m sure you notice are the two lockable storage boxes in the bed. How cool is that? Perfect for storing tools, tie downs or fishing gear. Even better, the driver side is insulated, which makes for a perfect cooler on-the-go.
This feature is also available on the Tundra Trail Edition, which has the popular 1794 Edition grille.
All of the Trail Edition Models Feature black seating and unique tan stitching throughout the cab.
So, now that you know of some of the details, let’s see them in action.
—
Oh, you didn’t think I’d stand up here and talk about conquering the trail without 4Runner, did you? How awesome is that Yakima rack? Standard on the Trail edition.
Continuing the theme of extra storage, the 4Runner Trail comes with a custom cooler that secures easily to the standard sliding rear cargo tray. It’s removable and lockable making it the perfect companion for campsites or tailgates. And I don’t know if you noticed, but the color is the same as the exterior of the vehicle.
Speaking of color, all three Trail Editions will be available in Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black and Super White.
And I’m happy to say customers can start enjoying these new offerings late summer of this year.
As you can see, it’s a very exciting time for Toyota.
Overall, we could not be positioned better for a successful 2020. We’ve got the players, we’ve got the drive and we will work hard to welcome more people to the Toyota family.
These three new Trail Special Editions and Nightshade models along with the all-new Highlander XSE are sure to attract adventure seeking customers.
On behalf of Toyota, thank you for joining us today. Please enjoy your stay here in Chicago, try to get by Portillo’s for a hot dog and I wish you all safe travels getting home.
Please allow photographers a few moments to get some shots before you come on the stage.
Thanks and have a great day!

]]>The sporty element is the first-ever Highlander XSE, which brings nimble moves and bolder styling to this three-row family SUV. Meanwhile, new Trail Special Editions of the Tacoma and Tundra pickups and 4Runner SUV come prepped for even more outdoorsy adventure. And, for people who like dark shadows, dark matter, and maybe even dark chocolate, Toyota is adding new Nightshade Special Editions of the Tacoma and Tundra pickups and the Sequoia SUV. These join five other Toyotas already available with the cool, dark Nightshade treatment.
Highlander XSE: More Fun for the Parents
In the Toyota world, the XSE badge signals a drive on the sporty side with specially tuned handling suspension, unique exterior styling, and exclusive interior trim. For 2021, and for the first time in its 20-year history, the Highlander family SUV gets the XSE treatment. The fourth-generation Highlander, just introduced for 2020 and built on the Toyota New Global Architecture, offers the ideal platform for an athletic transformation.
Designed for people who need SUV practicality but really miss driving sport sedans, the Highlander XSE combines bold exterior design with more agile driving reflexes. Positioned between the XLE and Limited grades, the 2021 Highlander XSE is briskly motivated by a 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 that’s teamed with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s available with either front-wheel drive or Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive.
In addition to being able to send up to 50 percent of torque to the rear wheels, this advanced AWD system can control the left/right torque distribution to the rear wheels for a more engaging driving experience. In addition, the Multi-Terrain Select feature, controlled by a dial on the center console, allows the driver to adjust drivetrain responses to prevailing road and weather conditions.
The Highlander XSE handles curves as well as its design takes compliments. In addition to exclusive machined-faced 20-inch wheels with black accents, the XSE model is equipped with higher-rate springs and rear stabilizer bar, and the shock absorbers have been re-tuned for lower friction. Electric power steering has also been re-tuned for a sportier steering feel. These carefully calibrated new parts boost handling agility for the XSE while preserving Highlander’s renowned ride comfort.
To make the XSE grade, Highlander received a bumper-to-bumper style makeover. The front fascia, grille, and lower spoiler are exclusive to this model and impart a more aggressive stance. The restyled upper grille joins a much larger lower air intake integrated into the new bumper, with a spoiler below that. Unique headlamps feature black accents and light-strip DRLs.
In profile, unique rocker panels add an edgy accent to the Highlander XSE’s sculpted lines. Around back, there’s a shocker: the first-ever exposed dual-tip exhaust on a Highlander – and chromed, no less. Black roof rails, mirror caps, and window moldings dial up the subtle cool factor.
Inside, the Highlander XSE rocks black Softex-trimmed seats with fabric inserts, while ambient lighting and carbon-fiber finish on the instrument panel sets the mood. A striking two-tone red and black leather-trimmed interior with red-stitched instrument panel is available and is sure to incite a bit of carpool envy.,
The 2021 Highlander XSE comes ready to take on all devices with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa compatibility, as well as five USB ports and an all access 3-month trail of SiriusXM®.
The Highlander XSE will also offer an available Premium Audio 1200-Watt, 11-speaker JBL sound system with dynamic navigation, breathing new life into old hair bands.
Toyota anticipates that about 12 percent of Highlander buyers will opt for this edgier family hauler. Other updates to the 2021 Highlander will be announced later, but the XSE is slated for launch this fall.
2021 Trail Special Editions: Carry In, Carry Out In Style
Toyota truck buyers love the great outdoors, and in fact, Toyota trucks sit at the top of their segments for owners who participate in outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and hiking. To celebrate and support all that fresh-air fun, Toyota is introducing the 2021 Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner Trail Special Editions this summer. All put emphasis on extra storage and convenience, with unique styling and exclusive content added for good measure.
All three 2021 Toyota Trails are based on the SR5 grade models to deliver high value, and they also offer the choice of 2WD or 4WD. The Tacoma Trail is built on the SR5 Double Cab, and the Tundra Trail is based on the SR5 Crew Max with SR5 Upgrade Package (larger fuel tank, front bucket seats with driver’s power lumbar support, front center console, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, three front cupholders, and an anti-theft system with alarm and engine immobilizer).
Available Trail color choices include Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, and Super White. While these are not strictly considered limited editions, volume will be low. Toyota is planning to equip 7,000 Tacomas, 5,000 Tundras and 4,000 4Runners as Trail Editions.
All Trails feature black exterior badging, plus black seating with tan stitching. In all versions, standard all-weather floor liners help catch the outdoor elements that come in on occupants’ feet. From there, each Trail model has its own unique set of upgrades:
Custom-made for Toyota in the U.S., the 4Runner Trail’s cooler is quite a versatile piece of equipment, featuring:
The cooler comes color-keyed with Cement or Army Green exterior 4Runner colors, while on Super White and Midnight Black 4Runner Trails the cooler is Cement.
Nightshade Special Editions: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
With the close of summer comes shorter days and earlier sunsets – the perfect time for a trio of new 2021 Toyota Nightshade Editions to make their arrival. Toyota already offers Nightshade Editions of the Corolla Sedan, Corolla Hatchback, Camry, 4Runner, and Sienna van.
While most Toyota Nightshade models are based on SE grade versions, the 2021 Nightshade pickups and Sequoia are built on the more luxurious Limited grade models. All have black leather-trim seating and slightly sinister looking black exterior trim, including a darkened chrome grille, black mirror caps and black door handles. All three of the Toyota Nightshade trucks offer the choice of 2WD or 4WD.
From there, the details vary by model. The Tacoma Nightshade is also distinguished by Dark Smoke 18-inch alloy wheels, black exhaust tip and fog light bezels, and a new grille insert design.
The Tundra Nightshade has black wheels and exhaust tip, while the Sequoia Nightshade uniquely features darkened chrome ‘Sequoia’ badging, body moldings, and lower grille and fog light surrounds.
The Nightshade Editions look particularly wicked in Midnight Black Metallic or Magnetic Gray Metallic. For more customization, the Tacoma and Tundra are also available in Windchill Pearl*, and the Tundra can also be ordered in Super White. The Sequoia Nightshade offers Blizzard Pearl as an additional choice. *Added Cost Color
Toyota is planning to build 5,000 each of the Tacoma and Tundra Nightshade, and 2,500 Sequoia Nightshade.

]]>The third-generation Tacoma, with a design inspired by Toyota’s legendary desert race trucks, veritably defines the “work hard, play hard” ethos. Available in 32 different configurations, the 2020 Tacoma offers a model for all seasons and reasons. Six model grades include: work-ready SR; high-style, high-value SR5; athletic TRD Sport; adventurous TRD Off-Road; ultimate off-road TRD Pro; and top-of-the-line Limited.
All Tacoma models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), which includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.
New Look, New Function, New Fun for 2020
Most 2020 Tacomas will debut a new front grille design with detailing tailored to each model grade, while every Tacoma will feature a revised taillamp design. In the Tacoma’s roomy cabin, a new, larger multimedia touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility. The SR grade features a 7-inch touchscreen display, while all others get an 8-inch touchscreen.
In addition to the multimedia upgrade, the 2020 SR offers the added convenience of new intermittent windshield wipers and an available LED bed lamp. The SX upgrade package, introduced for 2019 and returning for 2020, turns the SR Access Cab into a high-value sport truck with stylish black-out features, including grille, headlight surrounds, overfenders, 16-inch alloy wheels, mirror caps and door handles.
When equipped with the optional V6 engine, the 2020 Tacoma SR5 grade is fitted with a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support. It also receives an updated dark gray wheel color for 2020.
Tacoma Limited brings luxury to the everyday work and play truck, and for 2020 the style is more premium than ever. In addition to the new grille design, the Limited features new 18-inch alloy wheels, LED/DRL headlamps, LED foglamps, and chrome taillamp inserts. The expansive equipment roster grows with the Premium Audio system that now includes an 8-inch touchscreen, plus Smart Key operation is added to the passenger front door. Limited is also fitted with the 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat. The new Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) for the Double Cab version provides nearly 360-degree views around the truck for easier, safer maneuvering in tight situations.
TRD Trio Updates
The Tacoma TRD models, infused with ultimate capability by Toyota Racing Development, feature extensive upgrades for 2020. For starters, the 2020 TRD Sport will get a host of updates, including a new front grille design, new 17-inch wheel, LED foglamp and available LED/DRL headlamp, a new chrome insert taillamp, passenger Smart Key, and Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is available on Double Cab models. TRD Sport also receives the larger 8-inch touchscreen and 10-way power adjustable seat found on all grades SR5 and up when equipped with the V6 engine.
For 2020, the TRD Off-Road also gets a new grille up front, LED foglamp, LED/DRL headlamp availability, chrome insert taillamp and the addition of passenger Smart Key. It also, on Double Cab models, receives Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) for improved visibility of the terrain around the truck. Like TRD Sport, it also receives the updated multimedia with 8-inch touchscreen and power adjustable driver’s seat.
Headlining the TRD trio, the Tacoma TRD Pro backs up its revised look with new function. The new front grille design, unique sequential LED/DRL headlamps, new 16-inch wheel design, Rigid Industries LED fog lights, and black-insert taillamps give the TRD Pro a tougher stance and steely lighting signature. The newly available Army Green exterior color is exclusive to all TRD Pros for 2020, and Magnetic Gray gets added to the mix of Midnight Black Metallic and Super White to offer four color options on all TRD Pros.
A close look at the new cast-aluminum 16-inch wheels reveals the level of engineering detail lavished on this model. Each wheel is 4.188 lbs. lighter than on the 2019 model. That adds up to a significant weight reduction where it really counts to enhance off-road capability. TRD engineers also tweaked the shock and spring tuning to complement the lighter new wheels to improve off-road ride and handling.
You need more than a tough chassis for trail driving. You need to see obstacles before they become hazards. For 2020, the Tacoma TRD Pro provides more sets of eyes with the new Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) + Multi Terrain Monitor (MTM). The driver can select front, side, or rear views for nearly 360-degree visibility. When the going really gets rough, 5-second front undercarriage projected-path video playback can help the driver avoid potential unseen obstacles.
Meanwhile, no matter how rough it gets outside the TRD Pro, inside there’s plenty of comfort with a new 10-way power adjustable seat, plus the powerful capability of the Premium Audio system with 8-inch touchscreen (and JBL Premium Audio on automatic transmission models). For added convenience, Smart Key functionality now extends to the front passenger door. A power moonroof continues as standard.
Adventure Machine
On Tacoma 4×4 models, 4WDemand part-time four-wheel drive uses an electronically controlled transfer case and either an Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD) or an electronically controlled locking rear differential. Auto LSD is an electronic, brake-actuated system that functions like a mechanical limited slip differential when activated at low speeds. The TRD Off Road and Pro models feature a selectable, electronically controlled locking rear differential to provide supreme traction in off-road environments.
Tacoma TRD Sport models are equipped with sport-tuned shocks, while the TRD Off-Road models feature an off-road tuned suspension that uses Bilstein shocks. The TRD Off-Road model gives the driver even more control in off-road situations with the Multi-Terrain Select system (automatic transmission only). With it, the driver can choose a drive mode to match different types of terrain such as loose rock, or mud and sand. Each input regulates wheel spin by adjusting throttle and brake pressure to provide optimal traction on almost any terrain.
The TRD Off-Road model is ready-made for challenging terrain with Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), clutch Start Cancel (manual transmission only), Active Traction Control, and Crawl Control. Engaging Crawl Control offers one of five low-speed settings to allow the driver to keep focus on navigating across challenging off-road terrain.
The available Tow Package (standard on all V6 models) includes a Class IV Towing Receiver Hitch, engine oil cooler, transmission fluid cooler (automatic transmission only), power steering cooler, 130-amp alternator, 4- and 7-pin connector with converter, and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC).
TRD Pro Really Earns Its Badge
Inspired by Toyota’s long history of off-road racing success, the Tacoma TRD Pro is aimed squarely at diehard off-road enthusiasts. Take the available TRD-designed Desert Air Intake, for example. It’s designed to help raise the engine’s air intake out of the dust and into cleaner air, helping the Tacoma to perform at its best even when conditions are not.Tacoma TRD Pro wears a heritage-inspired front grille with bold “TOYOTA” lettering, color-keyed surround, blacked-out hood scoop and graphic, color-keyed power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, color-keyed door handles, black overfenders, and color-keyed rear bumper. Available TRD Pro exterior colors include Midnight Black Metallic, Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, and the exclusive Army Green.
Based on the Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 Double Cab short-bed model with either a six-speed manual transmission (with clutch start-cancel switch) or six-speed automatic, the Tacoma TRD Pro comes ready to conquer hill and trail. In addition to the TRD Off-Road grade equipment, the Tacoma TRD Pro adds:
Inside, the Tacoma TRD Pro blends toughness with comfort, incorporating black leather-trimmed heated front seats with TRD Pro logos on the headrests, TRD shift knob, and TRD Pro floor mats. The instrument panel integrates a 4.2-inch color Multi-Information Display with an inclinometer and tilt gauge, plus displays for outside temperature, odometer, trip meters, and average fuel economy.
Solid Foundation
The Tacoma’s foundation for hard work, hard play, and durability is built from extensive use of high-strength steel in the frame and hot-stamped, ultra-high strength steel in the body. All models are equipped with double wishbone coil-spring front suspension and leaf-spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. This setup delivers a steady on-road ride and bolsters off-road driving capability.
Tacoma power comes in two levels. The standard 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with VVT-i produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of peak torque. The available 3.5-liter V6 employs Toyota’s innovative VVT-iW technology and Atkinson-cycle combustion to maximize efficiency. Toyota’s D-4S fuel injection system incorporates both direct injection and port injectors. The bottom line is an impressive 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of peak torque.
Each of the Tacoma’s engines can be teamed to a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), while the V6 can also be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. When equipped with an optional V6 Tow Package, depending upon the model grade, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 lbs. (per the SAE J2807 tow standard).
Capability and Comfort
High capability doesn’t preclude comfort in the Tacoma, which rides along quietly thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad. The cabin exudes a high-quality ambience with soft-wrapped trim and metallic accents.
The SR and SR5 are equipped with fabric-trimmed seats, while seating for the TRD Sport and Off-Road grades is uniquely upholstered with embossed fabric that conveys a dynamic and rugged feel. The TRD Pro features leather-trimmed seating plus heated front seats, and the premium Limited grade offers seats trimmed in rich leather.
Available premium features such as Qi wireless charging, Smart Key with push-button start, leather-trimmed seats, power tilt/slide moonroof and dual-zone automatic climate control make the Tacoma an outstanding everyday vehicle.
32 Configurations
The 2020 Tacoma is available in 32 models based on two cab types, the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab. Each is available in 4×2 or 4×4 configurations in a wide array of model grades. Access Cab models offer under-seat rear storage space, with fold-up seat cushions to maximize carrying space. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
The Access Cab models ride on a 127.4-inch wheelbase and have a 73.7-inch-long bed. The Double Cab is offered in two versions: the 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 60.5-inch bed or 140.6-inch wheelbase with the 73.7-inch bed. All models use an inner bed made from a sheet-molded composite (SMC) deck and tough, durable walls that are 10-percent lighter than steel.
The tailgate’s easy-lowering feature allows it to retract slowly to prevent it from slamming down. An available factory-installed tri-fold hard tonneau cover secures gear out of sight.
The versatile bed deck features two-tier loading and an integrated deck-rail utility system with four standard adjustable tie-down cleats. Toyota dealers offer a range of Genuine Toyota Accessories that work in conjunction with the deck rail system. Examples include a cargo divider that locks into the rails to help keep cargo from sliding around the bed, and mini tie-downs with hooks that also help to secure cargo. An available 120V/400W power point further extends the bed’s utility.
Designed in America
Tacoma’s chiseled face is anchored by a bold, hexagonal grille and a tall, muscular hood. Its slim, projection beam headlights can be outfitted with available LED daytime running lights. The overfenders accentuate the tough high-lift image while functioning to accommodate the suspension’s generous wheel travel.
The Tacoma’s wide array of model configurations and options give customers free rein to personalize their vehicles. The Tacoma’s exterior color palette includes VooDoo Blue, Midnight Black Metallic, Barcelona Red, Quicksand, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, Super White, Cement and, exclusively for the 2020 TRD Pro, Army Green.
Toyota dealers in addition offer a large selection of accessories, including TRD performance components, that expand Tacoma’s utility, comfort, and driving fun.
Multimedia Systems
The 2020 Tacoma’s multimedia system improved across the board. Not only does each Tacoma model get a larger touchscreen, but each vehicle now features Android Auto, Apple CarPlay®, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Each vehicle features a six-speaker sound system that includes Handsfree Bluetooth® phone and music capability, USB media port, 2 USB charge ports, and an integrated backup camera display. All vehicles offer SiriusXM capability and include a 3-month All Access Trial.
While the SR model features a 7-inch touchscreen, SR5 models and up are all fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen display. The TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road models offer an available Premium Audio system that adds dynamic navigation. Premium Audio is available on the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road grades but comes standard on Limited and TRD Pro, and it includes six JBL® speakers and subwoofer amplifier.
Safety Standout
Along with standard TSS-P, the Toyota Tacoma also touts the Star Safety System, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop brake override technology (SST). Every Tacoma has the driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System, driver and front passenger knee airbags, and front and rear Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags.
Active head restraints for the front seats are designed to move up and slightly forward during a rear-end collision to help reduce the risk of whiplash. Additional standard safety features include a Tire Pressure Monitor System (with individual tire location alert on most grades).
A North American Story
CALTY Design Research, Toyota’s American design studio in Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, helped give the Tacoma an unmistakably athletic and stylish identity. The Toyota engineering team at Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor takes great pride in its role helping to develop the latest generation Tacoma pickup. The Tacoma is assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX), in San Antonio and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Baja California (TMMBC), in Baja California, Mexico.
Limited Warranty and ToyotaCare
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. The Tacoma also comes standard with ToyotaCare, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Whether as a young boy playing the beautiful game in harsh conditions in Acapulco or as a pro competing in enemy territory, I needed to be willing to give it my all, no matter how tough the surroundings. That’s what it takes to win.”
Toyota will further fuel momentum among fans through partnerships with two high-level soccer properties. Beginning with Alianza de Futbol, Toyota rekindles its sponsorship of Copita Toyota Alianza, which showcases the best youth soccer teams in the United States. The partnership includes an interactive footprint of activities and special guest appearances. The tournament started in Atlanta this past May and continues through September.
Continuing the success of last year’s Tour Aguila, Toyota is once again partnering with Club America for another series of high-octane matches in the U.S. For the second straight year, fans will witness the excitement of one of the most popular teams in North America as they prepare for several amazing contests against international powerhouses. Tacoma and Tundra will be there for all of the pregame activities at the Fiesta Futbolera presented by Toyota.
Toyota is also engaged with a variety of other popular soccer properties including Liga Mexicana, MNT/USMNT, and UEFA Champions League, with broadcast integrations during telecast games.

]]>A perennial award winner for segment-leading value, the Tacoma line boosts its appeal for 2020 with revised styling, expanded multimedia tech, added comfort and convenience features and, for the TRD Pro, additional off-road tech.
The third-generation Tacoma pickup, with a design inspired by Toyota’s legendary desert race trucks, continues the model’s tradition of working hard and playing hard. With more than 30 configurations in six model grades available, there’s a Tacoma for every need: work-ready SR; high-style, high-value SR5; athletic TRD Sport; adventurous TRD Off-Road; ultimate off-road TRD Pro; and top-of-the-line Limited.
Nearly all 2020 Tacomas debut a new front grille design and new or updated wheel, each tailored to the specific grade. Inside, a new 10-way power adjustable driver seat with power lumbar support adds comfort on all grades SR5 and up. A new multimedia system now includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility. The SR will feature an upgraded 7-inch touchscreen, while SR5 grades and higher will feature a larger 8-inch touchscreen display. A new LED bed lamp is also available to brighten nighttime functionality while consuming less energy.
Changes Across the Board
While every Tacoma will receive the upgraded audio system and larger touchscreen display, specific changes unique to each grade are not to be overlooked.
The Tacoma SR workhorse gets its share of updates in 2020, including a new grille design and intermittent wiper. Out back, the taillights are revised with a new dark housing. The LED bed lamp is an available option. SR will feature a larger 7-inch touchscreen with new multimedia system that features Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Amazon Alexa and SiriusXM capability, and more.
Tacoma SR5 is fitted with a new grille design, a new 16-inch dark satin wheel color, darker taillight housings, and an updated fabric design on the seatback. SR5 will also offer an available LED bed lamp and DRL headlight option.
For Tacoma TRD Sport, a new grille and 17-inch wheel highlight the changes. It also adds Passenger Smart Key entry, chrome taillamp inserts, and new LED fog lamps. A new LED DRL and LED headlight is available, as is the new LED bed lamp. The new Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is available on Sport grades, and it provides views around the truck for easier, safer maneuvering in tight situations.
Tacoma TRD Off-Road will feature a new front grille design, LED foglamp, chrome insert taillamp and Passenger Smart Key entry. To provide a better view of the terrain under the vehicle, Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) is available. A new LED DRL and LED headlight is an available upgrade, as is a LED bed lamp. TRD Off-Road also comes standard with TRD-tuned Bilstein shocks, locking rear differential, Hill Assist Control (HAC), Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control.
Tacoma Limited’s look is more premium than ever with a new grille design, 18-inch alloy wheels, standard LED DRL and LED headlamps, and chrome taillamp inserts. It also received the upgraded Smart Key operation on the passenger door. The new Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is standard equipment on Limited-grade Tacomas.
Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), standard on every Tacoma grade, includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
Tacoma TRD Pro: More Trail-Capable Than Ever
For 2020, the Tacoma TRD Pro, one of a series of Toyota trucks and SUVs infused with ultimate capability by Toyota Racing Development, returns with a revised look and new
features. New sequential LED/DRL headlamps, 16-inch wheel design and black-insert taillamps headline the exterior changes. Rigid Industries LED fog lights come standard for improved visibility on and off the highway. Newly available Army Green is the TRD Pro exclusive color for 2020, which will be offered along with Super White, Midnight Black Metallic and Magnetic Gray Metallic.
Inside TRD Pro, a new 10-way power seat adds comfort, and the multimedia system is upgraded with the new 8-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, among others. For added convenience, Smart Key functionality now extends to the front passenger door.
High-tech trail assistance comes to the fore with the new Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) + Multi Terrain Monitor (MTM). The driver can select front, side, or rear views for improved visibility. When the going really gets rough, under vehicle terrain view can help the driver avoid potential unseen obstacles.
In other respects, the 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro continues with its roster of hardcore capability. A new 16-inch wheel is added to the mix, which is 4.188 lbs. lighter than the previous version. To complement the changes, TRD updated the tuning of the Fox 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks and front and rear springs. Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Kevlar-reinforced tires stand up to rough terrain.
The Tacoma TRD Pro comes standard with 4WDemand part-time 4-wheel drive with an electronically controlled transfer case and an electronically controlled locking rear differential. Automatic transmission-equipped Tacomas also further off-road capability and driver confidence with Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Multi-terrain Select, and Crawl Control.
With standard power moonroof and, on automatic transmission models, JBL Premium Audio, there’s no leaving luxury behind when the pavement ends.
Tacoma by the Numbers
Tacoma Access Cab models ride on a 127.4-inch wheelbase and have a 73.7-inch-long bed. The Tacoma Double Cab style is offered as a 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 60.5-inch bed or 140.6-inch wheelbase with the 73.7-inch bed. All models use an inner bed made from a sheet-molded composite (SMC) deck and tough, durable walls that are 10-percent lighter than steel.
The 2020 Tacoma offers a choice of two tough powertrains. The 2.7-liter DOHC 4-cylinder with 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, and an available 3.5-liter V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Both are teamed to a 6-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), and the V6 can also be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
V6-powered Tacomas come standard with the Tow Package – which includes Class IV receiver hitch, automatic transmission fluid cooler, engine oil cooler, power steering cooler, 130-amp alternator, 4 & 7-pin connector with converter, and Trailer-Sway Control. When properly equipped, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 lbs. (per the SAE J2807 tow standard).

]]>The post 2019 Toyota Tacoma Adds Style, Capability with New SX Package and TRD Pro appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>The Toyota Tacoma drives into 2019 on an impressive streak leading the mid-size market in sales for 12 straight years. Although certainly worthy of a mic drop, the hard-working Tacoma has no intention of resting on its laurels. In fact, it returns better than ever in 2019 with the additions of the new blacked-out SX Package and updated TRD Pro, both of which add even more variety to the diverse Tacoma lineup that now includes 32 different configurations.
Offering Tacoma lovers a stylish truck that’s light on the wallet, the new SX package provides an affordable, blacked-out appearance package that can be a great base for a customized vehicle but can also stand confidently on its own. The host of black accents include 16-inch alloy wheels, mirror caps, handles, grille and more.
For those who live life off the pavement, the 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro provides a compelling reason to start planning that next adventure. Highlighted by 2.5-inch Fox Internal Bypass shocks on all four corners, the new Tacoma adds an available TRD Desert Air Intake designed to provide cleaner airflow to the engine even in the dustiest environments. TRD Pro also gets a standard moonroof and JBL Premium Audio (on automatic transmission models only).
Tacoma offers the active safety system Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) standard on every, single grade. TSS-P provides owners with Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
In 2019, Tacoma adds two additional USB charging ports in the center console, and the SR grade trucks now include standard privacy glass.
Tough Foundation
Extensive use of high-strength steel in the frame and hot-stamped, ultra-high strength steel in the body gives the Tacoma a strong foundation for hard work, hard play, and durability. All Tacoma models are equipped with double wishbone coil-spring front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. This setup delivers a steady on-road ride yet also bolsters the truck’s off-road driving capability.
There’s strength under the hood, too. The 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder with VVT-i produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of peak torque. Those wanting more power can opt for the Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 featuring Toyota’s innovative VVT-iW technology. The engine also utilizes Toyota’s D-4S injection system, which incorporates both direct injection and port fuel injection. This efficient engine cranks out 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of peak torque.
Each of the engines can be teamed to a six-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), or the V6 can also be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. When equipped with an optional V6 Tow Package, depending upon the grade, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 lbs. (per the SAE J2807 tow standard).
Domestically Designed
CALTY designers in Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, helped give the new-generation Tacoma an unmistakably athletic and stylish identity that retains everyday functionality and ruggedness. They took some inspiration from Toyota’s legendary desert race trucks. The overfenders look tough and also serve to accommodate the suspension’s generous wheel travel. The Tacoma’s high-lift image reflects its go-anywhere capability. Seven available wheel designs range in diameter from 16 to 18 inches.
Tacoma’s chiseled face is anchored by a bold, hexagonal grille and a tall, muscular hood. Its slim, projection beam headlights can be outfitted with available LED daytime running lights. The tailgate has an easy-lowering feature, which allows it to retract slowly to prevent it from slamming down. An available factory-installed tri-fold hard tonneau cover secures gear out of sight.
The Tacoma’s exterior color palette includes Cavalry Blue, Midnight Black Metallic, Barcelona Red, Quicksand, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, Super White, Cement and Voodoo Blue (TRD Pro only).
Tacoma may be tough, but its interior treats the driver and passengers gently. Soft-wrapped trim and metallic accents set the stage for a high-quality look and feel. Comfort and durability come together in Tacoma’s seating, which varies by model grade. All Tacoma models feature a driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support and four-way adjustable front passenger seats. The SR and SR5 grades are equipped with fabric-trimmed seats. Seating for the TRD Sport and Off-Road grades is uniquely upholstered with embossed fabric that conveys a dynamic and rugged feel. The TRD Pro comes with leather-trimmed seating plus heated front seats, and the premium Limited grade offers seats trimmed in rich leather.
Tacoma can get downright luxurious with such premium features as Qi wireless charging, smart key with push-button start, leather-trimmed seats, power tilt/slide moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, enhanced touchscreen audio, Blind-Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Tacoma rides along quietly thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad. Interior storage is maximized in Access Cab models with fold-up rear seats and under-seat storage. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
32 Different Configurations
The 2019 Tacoma is available in 32 models based on two cab types, the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab, each available in 4×2 or 4×4 configurations. Access Cab models offer under-seat rear storage space, and their fold-up seat cushions maximize carrying space. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
Tacoma is available in six model grades, each with its own purpose and unique appearance, including the work-ready SR; the high-style, high-value SR5; the athletic TRD Sport; the adventurous TRD Off-Road; the top-of-the-line Limited; and the ultimate off-road TRD Pro.
Both bed styles are designed to take punishment with an inner bed made from a sheet-molded composite (SMC) deck and tough, durable walls that are 10-percent lighter than steel. The bed deck features two-tier loading and an integrated deck-rail utility system with four standard adjustable tie-down cleats.
The deck rail system can carry just about whatever you need to. It’s compatible with Genuine Toyota Accessories, including a cargo divider that locks into the rails to help keep cargo from sliding around the bed, and mini tie-downs with hooks that also help to secure cargo. An available 120V/400W power point further extends the bed’s utility.
The Adventure Machine
All Tacoma 4×4 models are equipped with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with an electronically controlled transfer case and either an Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD) or an electronically controlled locking rear differential. Auto LSD is an electronic, brake-actuated system that functions like a mechanical limited slip differential when activated at low speeds, while TRD Off Road models feature a selectable, electronically controlled locking rear differential to provide supreme traction in off-road environments. Tacoma TRD Sport models are equipped with sport-tuned shocks. TRD Off-Road models include an off-road tuned suspension that includes Bilstein shocks.
The TRD Off-Road grade gives the driver even more control to explore off-roading adventures. A Multi-Terrain Select system (automatic transmission only) allows the driver to choose between different types of terrain such as loose rock, or mud and sand. Each input regulates wheel spin by adjusting throttle and brake pressure to provide maximum traction on almost any terrain.
The impressive array of TRD Off-Road technology continues with Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), clutch Start Cancel (manual transmission only), Active Traction Control, and Crawl Control. Engaging Crawl Control offers one of five low-speed settings that allow the driver to keep focus on navigating across challenging off-road terrain.
The available Tow Package (standard on all V6 models) includes a Class IV Towing Receiver Hitch, ATF Cooler (not available on manual transmission), engine oil cooler, power steering cooler, 130-amp alternator, 4- and 7-pin connector with converter, and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC).
TRD Pro Gets Even Better
Inspired by Toyota’s long history of off-road racing success and knowhow, the Tacoma TRD Pro is aimed squarely at diehard off-road enthusiasts. For 2019, it gets even better with the addition of the available eye-catching, TRD-designed Desert Air Intake. Designed to help raise the engine’s air intake out of the dust and into clean air, the available Desert Air Intake helps the Tacoma to perform at its best even when conditions are not.
Tacoma TRD Pro is distinguishable thanks to its heritage-inspired “TOYOTA” front grille with color-keyed surround, blacked-out hood scoop and graphic, color-keyed power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, color-keyed door handles, black overfenders, and color-keyed rear bumper. Available TRD Pro exterior colors include Midnight Black Metallic, Super White, and the exclusive Voodoo Blue inspired by another iconic off-roader, the FJ Cruiser.
The TRD Pro is more than a tough-looking truck. It’s designed to perform in the toughest of off-road environments. Based on the Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 Double Cab short-bed model with either a six-speed manual transmission (with clutch start-cancel switch) or six-speed automatic, the Tacoma TRD Pro comes ready to conquer hill and trail. In addition to the TRD Off-Road grade on which it is based, the Tacoma TRD Pro adds:
Inside, the Tacoma TRD Pro blends toughness with comfort, incorporating black leather-trimmed heated front seats with TRD Pro logos on the headrests, TRD shift knob, and TRD Pro floor mats. The TRD Pro instrument panel integrates a 4.2-inch color Multi-Information Display with an inclinometer and tilt gauge, plus displays for outside temperature, odometer, tripmeters, and average fuel economy.
For 2019, Tacoma TRD Pro also includes JBL Premium Audio (automatic transmission only) and a moonroof as standard equipment.
Entune Multimedia Options
The Tacoma SR grade comes standard with the base Entune Audio system featuring the Entune Multimedia Bundle, which includes a 6.1-inch touchscreen display with AM/FM CD player, 6 speakers, auxiliary port, USB media port, advanced voice recognition, hands-free phone capability, phone book access and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology, and Siri Eyes Free and an integrated backup camera display.

SX Package Adds Personalization to Packages
Toyota offers a wide variety of optional packages to personalize the 2019 Tacoma, and the newest offering is the SX Package that offers a cool black-out theme that doesn’t come with a hefty price tag. Based on the SR grade and available on 4x2s and 4x4s, SX adds a host of black-keyed accents that include the overfenders, mirror caps, door handles, headlamps and 4×4 badge. It also includes a black grille and 16-inch black matte black alloy wheels. The package is available on six colors that include Super White, Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic and Quicksand.
In addition to the new SX, Tacoma offers a plethora of package options: the Utility Package (SR only), SR Convenience Package, SR5 Appearance Package, Parking Sonar & Navigation Package and three levels of Premium & Technology Packages.
The Utility Package creates a work-truck configuration by removing the rear seats and cupholders for added utility space, and adds black door handles, black mirror caps, black rear bumper, and a fixed rear window. The SR Convenience Package adds cruise control and remote keyless entry, while the SR5 Appearance Package includes 16-inch silver alloy wheels and color-keyed overfenders.
The Premium & Technology Packages bundle comfort and technology features including dual zone climate control, heated front seats, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, auto-headlamps, power tilt/slide moonroof, Entune Premium JBL Audio, and more. Toyota dealers offer a wide array of accessories, including TRD performance components, that expand Tacoma’s utility, comfort, and driving fun.
Safety Standout
Along with standard TSS-P, Tacoma also touts the Star Safety System as standard equipment, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop brake override technology (SST). Every Tacoma has the driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System, driver and front passenger knee airbags, and front and rear Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags.
Standard active head restraints for the front seats are designed to move up and slightly forward during a rear-end collision to help reduce the risk of whiplash. Additional standard safety features include a Tire Pressure Monitor System (with individual tire location alert on most grades).
A North American Story
The Toyota engineering team at Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., takes great pride in its role helping to develop the latest generation Tacoma pickup.

]]>Lights Out: 4Runner Nightshade
The 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition adds mystique to the Limited grade on which it’s based with stylish upgrades that make it unique among its peers. Black accents are added to give Nightshade its own vibe: front and rear bumper spoilers, outer mirrors and door handles, window moldings, rocker panels, door garnish, roof rails and badging.
Up front, black chrome moldings are fitted on the grille slots and, in back, the exhaust tip gets the black treatment as well. Black 20-inch wheels help complete the sleek exterior. Inside, black interior trim features include the steering wheel, center cluster and console panels, shift knob and shifter panel, and inner door grips. The 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition is available in Limited 4×2 or 4×4 models and carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1,740 in addition to the base vehicle MSRP. It is available at dealerships now in select colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Blizzard Pearl.
Tundra SX is Clean Supreme
First and foremost, Tundra owners pride themselves on being just as tough as their trucks, but there’s no question that personalization is a very close second place. Available on the SR5 grade Double Cab in 4×2 or 4×4 and powered by the 5.7-liter i-FORCE V8 engine, the SX Package provides a lustrous combo that’s clean, fresh, and of course, tough.
Relying on a selection of color-keyed accents and blacked-out wheels, SX combines thoughtful upgrades to create what may be the cleanest Tundra to date. The exterior of the truck is streamlined with the removal of all exterior badging. Next, color-keyed front grille surrounds, front bumper end caps and a rear bumper are added for a uniform appearance. Front bucket seats are upgraded for added comfort, and 18-inch black alloy wheels add a nice finishing touch.
The Tundra SX Package is available in dealerships now with an MSRP of $1,630 on SR5 Tundra grades. It is available in colors Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Barcelona Red Metallic.
Tacoma SX: Back with Black
For 2019, the Tacoma is offered in an impressive 32 different versions, and the new SX Package only adds to that variety with a black-out theme that doesn’t come with a hefty price tag.
The SX Package is based on the Tacoma SR grade and is available on 4x2s and 4x4s on Access Cab models. The SX gets black-out treatment on high-visibility parts such as the badging, overfenders, mirror caps, grille, door handles and headlamps. It also gets the addition of 16-inch matte black alloy wheels.
The SX Package offers cool customization but keeps things within budget at an MSRP of $560. It is available on six different colors that include Super White, Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic and Quicksand.

]]>The post 2018 Dallas-Ft. Worth Auto Show – Vinay Shahani Remarks appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
]]>Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well.
We appreciate you joining us here at the 2018 DFW Auto Show… a show that’s near and dear to us, because now that we’ve completed our move to Plano, North Texas is our home.
To celebrate we capped off 2017 with a bang!
Last year’s sales can be summed up in three key points: First, Toyota is America’s favorite brand for six years running; second, Camry is America’s favorite car for the 16th year in a row; and third, the RAV4 is America’s favorite SUV. Now that’s what I call finishing strong!
As we settle into our new digs here in Texas we’ve also embarked on another mission as the official mobility sponsor of the Olympic and Paralympic Games through 2024.
You’ve likely seen some of our messaging during the Winter Olympics or the Super Bowl, which really touch on our focus moving forward. Cars and trucks are obviously extremely important to us, but so is looking toward the future – a future we are committed to helping shape by making sure
That everyone has the freedom to move, and the ability to reach their potential.
Start Your Impossible is a theme you will see from Toyota as we challenge ourselves and the world to provide mobility for all.
Speaking of Olympics, how about Chloe Kim winning gold in PyeongChang the other night! Don’t forget to follow Chloe and our other Team Toyota Olympic athletes on social media – just look for the Team Toyota hashtag. We’re looking forward to more medals as the Games continue.
Now, while we have an eye toward what’s next we certainly have a firm grip on the present. We recently unveiled a very important vehicle, and today it is making its first appearance in Texas.
The all-new 2019 Toyota Avalon – designed, engineered, and assembled right here in the USA – sets a new standard for the premium segment with the highest quality, reliability, safety and craftsmanship in its class.
The Avalon represents our flagship sedan, and as you can see, the design reflects a higher level of luxury and speaks to a wider range of people.
When it goes on sale this spring consumers will have a choice of 4 gas-powered grades, all of which are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine designed to be more powerful with better fuel economy.
The hybrid variation is offered in 3 grades and is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with Toyota’s latest Hybrid System, and it’s important to note: the 2019 Avalon is the only full hybrid in the segment.
The Avalon is the latest example of our Toyota New Global Architecture first unveiled on the Camry last year. The new TNGA global platform allowed designers to create a longer, wider, and lower Avalon, one that features an extended wheelbase with shorter overhangs to improve handling and help create our most impressive Avalon to date!
For the first time, Avalon Touring grade will offer an available Adaptive Variable Suspension and standard multi-link rear suspension.
This AVS system adjusts on the fly in 650 levels reacting in just 20 milliseconds. That’s fast! Most importantly the AVS was tuned and polished for our roads here in North America.
The Avalon appeals to a variety of driving styles. For instance, there’s Eco mode for more leisurely drives, or for more fast-paced action the Sport Plus mode sharpens handling and improves throttle response.
And one of my favorite features in Sport Plus is the Engine Sound Enhancement, which helps amplify the engine’s voice to create a more visceral experience.
When it comes to exterior styling there’s more to love on the new Avalon.
The all-new XSE grade, available in gas or hybrid, joins the Avalon family and it welcomes in a younger buyer looking for premium qualities and athletic charisma.
The Limited and XLE, on the other hand, stay true to those who appreciate authentic premium design, highlighting the sleek and sophisticated technical beauty.
The 2019 Avalon’s standard slim LED headlights – set above the 3D grille – are brighter than ever, and those new headlights, like the tail lights, also feature progressive turn signals.
Our sportier grades are set apart with Piano black accents, a new mesh black grille, and darkened 19-inch wheels and, if you can believe, quad exhaust tips. Remember, this an Avalon we’re talking about!
The craftsmanship inside is better than ever with a simple and streamlined approach. There’s authentic materials throughout like the available Yamaha-sourced wood trim, and the aluminum accents that complement the quilted design on the leather seats and doors.
Comfort and luxury aren’t just for the front of the cabin, as the new Avalon offers a spacious back seat that touts best-in-class rear shoulder, knee, and head room.
A 7-inch multi-informational display provides the driver with information like turn-by-turn navigation, while a new 10-inch head-up display – biggest in the segment – makes it easy for the driver to see engine speed, direction, and audio settings. The Avalon also features Qi wireless charging, WiFi hotspot capability, and 5 USB outlets.
Every Avalon comes standard with a 9-inch capacitive touchscreen, which is super intuitive so you can navigate it just like your phone with pinch and flick movements. Entune 3.0 will be standard on all grades, and it will be our first vehicle fitted with Apple Carplay.
For music lovers looking for the ultimate sound experience there’s an available 1200-watt, 14-speaker, 7.1-channel surround sound system.
Toyota Remote Connect allows drivers to control certain vehicle functions with their Apple or Android smartwatch or Amazon Alexa-enabled devices.
Speaking of … we’re also proud to be among the first to implement Alexa-connectivity. With home-to-car and car-to-home commands, guests can lock and unlock their doors, start their engine, or even check their fuel level all through touch or voice commands.
It is always our mission to provide our customers with the best available safety features, so it goes without saying that every Avalon will come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, an active safety system highlighted by features like a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed-Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist.
As you can see we believe in sedans, and we are recommitting ourselves to this premium segment with our best Avalon to date.
We think you’ll love it too!
OK, let’s shift gears and talk about trucks.
Now, you might recognize our Tacoma TRD Pro over there.
Tacoma is the best-selling mid-size pickup for 12 years running … so chances are you’ve seen it on the road at some point. But, if you’re having trouble finding it, just look for the truck with the giant trophy in the bed.
The Tacoma TRD Pro was named Mid-Size Pickup Truck of Texas for the second year in a row by the Texas Auto Writer’s Association. It’s an award we’re extremely proud of, especially considering pickup trucks are a way of life in Texas.
Speaking of TRD Pro, we recently made an exciting announcement.
Check out this video.
Awesome, right?
TRD Pros represent our flagship off-road vehicles crafted for our most adventurous truck buyers. They include unique parts designed by our Toyota Racing Development engineers who tapped into our rich racing and off-road heritage.
For 2019, all TRD Pros are equipped with tailor-made Fox Internal Bypass Shocks, which offer optimal tuning to dominate the trails without sacrificing road manners.
These shocks offer a level of precise damping tunability to adjust the suspension performance to suit both trails and roads across the country.
The front shocks are paired with TRD Springs that offer additional lift for off-road performance and a more aggressive stance.
Out back, the rear Fox shocks employ piggyback reservoirs to house additional oil to maintain peak performance in the toughest conditions.
When it comes to styling form follows function with sleek, black TRD Pro branding on every vehicle. That includes a vintage-inspired signature black grille, black TRD badges, and unique TRD Pro wheels.
TRD Pros always feature an exclusive color, and this year that is Voodoo Blue which you may remember from the iconic FJ Cruiser. Super White and Midnight Black Metallic are also available.
Now while all TRD Pros share similar styling, each vehicle also has unique features. The part that probably stands out most is the Tacoma’s new TRD Desert Air Intake. Designed to help its engine perform best in dusty environments. The air intake is moved higher to draw from cleaner air up above the roofline.
Pretty cool, huh?
As for the Tundra TRD Pro, it will be better than ever thanks to a restyled front end that includes a new grille and hood scoop, and we can’t forget about those new, forged aluminum BBS wheels.
The 4Runner will be equipped with the new Fox shocks, but it also gets a new TRD roof rack, a standard premium JBL Audio system with subwoofer, and an updated quarter-inch skid plate with red TRD lettering.
Now, even on our toughest off-road trucks safety remains our biggest priority.
So for 2019, all TRD Pros feature the Star Safety System, and both Tacoma and Tundra come standard with Toyota Safety Sense.
These TRD Pros represent our most impressive off-road vehicles to date. They’re ready to tackle all the adventures Texas has to offer – both on and off the pavement – and they will be available in fall of this year.
It’s been a great start to 2018, but we’re just getting warmed up.
Stayed tuned because we’ve got some more exciting news to come very soon.
Thank you all again for joining us.
Be sure to stop by the Tacoma to grab a picture of our TAWA trophy and share it using the TRDpro hashtag. Oh, and don’t forget to grab a TRD Pro Yeti Tumbler!
Thank you everyone, and have a great day!

]]>The post Cambio radical: los Toyota TRD Pros de 2019 ejemplifican el rendimiento supremo a campo traviesa appeared first on Toyota USA Newsroom.
¿Quiere ir a muchos lugares?
Tundra TRD Pro: nuevas adiciones presuntuosas

]]>Other changes to the best-selling mid-size pickup for 11 years running include a minor grille update to the SR and SR5 grades, a darker mesh grille for the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road grades, and the Tacoma Limited features an updated Satin Chrome grille and offers a new black leather-trimmed interior. The 5-speed manual transmission is discontinued for 2018, though the 6-speed manual transmission remains available on certain models.
Ready for Pavement or Dirt
Extensive use of high-strength steel in the frame and hot-stamped ultra-high strength steel in the body gives the Tacoma a strong foundation for hard work, hard play, and durability. All Tacoma models are equipped with double wishbone coil-spring front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. This setup delivers a steady on-road ride, yet also bolsters the truck’s off-road driving capability.
There’s strength under the hood, too. The 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder with VVT-i produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of peak torque. Those wanting more power can opt for the segment-first Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 featuring Toyota’s innovative VVT-iW technology.
When equipped with an optional V6 Tow Package, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 lbs. (per the SAE J2807 tow standard).
Designed in the U.S.A.
The Tacoma’s exterior color palette includes Midnight Black Metallic, Blazing Blue Pearl, Barcelona Red Metallic, Inferno, Quicksand, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, Cement and Cavalry Blue (TRD Pro only).
Seating colors include:
Tacoma can get downright luxurious with available premium features such as:
Tacoma rides along quietly thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad. Interior storage is maximized in Access Cab models with fold-up rear seats and under-seat storage. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
30 Tacoma Configurations
The 2018 Tacoma is available in 30 models based on two cab types, the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab, each available in 4×2 or 4×4 configurations. Access Cab models offer under-seat rear storage space, and their fold-up seat cushions maximize carrying space. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
Tacoma is available in six model grades, each with its own purpose and unique appearance:
The Access Cab models ride on a 127.4-inch wheelbase and have a 73.7-inch-long bed. The Double Cab is offered in two versions: the 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 60.5-inch bed or 140.6-inch wheelbase with the 73.7-inch bed.

All Tacoma 4×4 models are equipped with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with an electronically controlled transfer case and Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD). Auto LSD is an electronic, brake-actuated system that functions like a mechanical limited slip differential when activated at low speeds. Tacoma TRD Sport models are equipped with sport-tuned shocks. TRD Off-Road models include an off-road tuned suspension that feature Bilstein shocks.
The TRD Off-Road grade gives the driver even more control to explore off-roading adventures. A Multi-Terrain Select system (automatic transmission only) allows the driver to choose between settings for different types of terrain such as dirt, loose rock, mud and sand. Each input regulates wheel spin by adjusting throttle and brake pressure to provide maximum traction on almost any terrain.
The impressive array of off-road technology continues with a Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), clutch Start Cancel (manual transmission only), Active Traction Control, and CRAWL Control. CRAWL Control automatically modulates the throttle and brakes on five low-speed settings so the driver can focus on navigating across difficult terrain.
The optional V6 Tow Package includes a Class IV Towing Receiver Hitch, ATF Cooler (not available on manual transmission), engine oil cooler, power steering cooler, 130-amp alternator, 4- and 7-pin connector with converter, and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC).

Getting Personal(ized)
Toyota offers a wide variety of optional packages to personalize the 2018 Tacoma: the Utility Package (SR only), SR Convenience Package, SR5 Appearance Package, Parking Sonar & Navigation Package and three levels of Premium & Technology Packages.
The Utility Package creates a work-truck configuration by removing the rear seats and cup holders for added utility space, and adds black door handles, black mirror caps, black rear bumper, and a fixed rear window. The SR Convenience Package adds cruise control and remote keyless entry, while the SR5 Appearance Package includes 16-inch silver alloy wheels and color-keyed overfenders.
The Premium & Technology Packages bundle comfort and technology features including dual zone climate control, heated front seats, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, auto-headlamps, power tilt/slide moonroof, Entune Premium JBL Audio, and more. Toyota dealers offer a wide array of accessories, including TRD performance components, that expand Tacoma’s utility, comfort, and driving fun.
Safety Standout
The Tacoma’s Star Safety System includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop brake override technology (SST). Every Tacoma has driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System, driver and front passenger knee airbags, and front and rear Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags.
Standard active headrests for the front seats move up and forward almost instantly in the event of certain severe rear-end collisions to help reduce the distance between the occupant’s head and the headrest.
The Tacoma is assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX), in San Antonio and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Baja California (TMMBC), in Baja California, Mexico. The Tacoma has maintained the highest resale value in its class for the past 11 years, according to Kelley Blue Book.
Limited Warranty and ToyotaCare
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. The Tacoma also comes standard with ToyotaCare, a complementary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

]]>After driving 16 hours through rugged, off-road terrain at Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas, 75 journalists solidified Toyota's standing in the Lone Star State with back-to-back victories.
"The Tacoma has built a reputation for quality, durability and reliability, and we're honored that TAWA has named the Tacoma TRD Pro the Mid-Size Pickup Truck of Texas for the second straight year," said John Myers, Toyota vehicle marketing and communications national manager. "With the opening of our Toyota Motor North America headquarters in Plano in July, we are especially excited to win this award as Texans."
Assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX), in San Antonio, the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro impressed TAWA members with its suspension, exhaust enhancements and off-road technology. The TRD Pro takes the Tacoma to the next level with 2.5-inch Fox Internal Bypass front shocks paired with TRD-tuned springs to provide an additional one inch of lift. Remote-reservoir Fox shocks are equipped in the rear that, along with the progressive-rate leaf springs, help provide the TRD Pro with exceptional off-road performance. The TRD Pro features a heritage-inspired TOYOTA grille, TRD Pro badge on the front doors and additional black badging to help it stand out in the crowd. The Tacoma TRD Pro is also fitted with an aluminum front skid plate, Rigid Industries LED fog lights, a TRD cat-black stainless-steel exhaust system, TRD Pro floor mats and a TRD shift lever. Powered by a segment-first Atkinson Cycle V6 engine, the Tacoma TRD Pro produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque. The TRD Pro is also equipped with off-road features such as CRAWL Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and a selectable locking rear differential.
TAWA is a Texas-based nonprofit association for automotive journalists promoting professionalism and quality in journalism for more than two decades. The group produces two annual events – Texas Auto Roundup and Texas Truck Rodeo – that allow members to experience vehicles from various manufacturers in one place, at one time.

]]>Brute Strength on Multiple Levels
Extensive use of high-strength steel in the frame and hot-stamped ultra-high strength steel in the body give the Tacoma a strong foundation for hard work, hard play, and durability. All Tacoma models are equipped with double wishbone coil-spring front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. The refined setup delivers a smooth on-road ride, yet also bolsters the truck’s off-road driving capability.
“Strong” is also an apt descriptor for the Tacoma’s two available powertrains. Its entry-level 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder with VVT-i produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of peak torque. Those wanting extra oomph can opt for the segment-first Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 featuring the Toyota’s innovative VVT-iW technology. The engine also utilizes Toyota’s D-4S injection system which incorporates both direct injection and port fuel injection. Along with its 278 horsepower, the V6 makes 265 lb.-ft. of peak torque.
The engines can be teamed to a six-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) or a manual transmission (six-speed for V6 applications; five-speed for four-cylinder applications). When equipped with an optional V6 Tow Package, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 lbs. (per the SAE J2807 tow standard).
High Style, High Function
Taking inspiration from Toyota’s legendary desert race trucks, CALTY designers in Newport Beach, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan helped give the new-generation Tacoma an unmistakably athletic and stylish identity that retains everyday functionality and ruggedness. The overfenders, for example, look tough but also serve to accommodate the suspension’s generous wheel travel. And the truck’s high-lift image reflects its go-anywhere capability. Seven available wheel designs range in diameter from 16 to 18 inches.
Tacoma’s chiseled face is anchored by a bold, hexagonal grille and a tall, muscular hood. Its slim, projection beam headlights can be outfitted with available LED daytime running lights. The tailgate adds an easy lowering feature, which allows it to slowly retract, preventing it from slamming down. An available factory-installed tri-fold hard tonneau cover secures gear when you’re away.
The Tacoma’s exterior color palette includes Black, Blazing Blue Pearl, Barcelona Red Metallic, Inferno, Quicksand, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Cement (TRD Pro only), Silver Sky Metallic, and Super White.
Its tough exterior is complemented by an interior that’s simultaneously comfortable and functional. Soft-wrapped trim and metallic accents set the stage for a high-quality look and feel, underscored by an array of available premium features, including:
In addition to offering premium features, the Tacoma is quiet thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad. Interior storage is maximized in Access Cab models with fold-up rear seats and under-seat storage. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
31 Reasons to Love Tacoma
The 2017 Tacoma is available in 31 models based on two cab types, the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab, each available in 4×2 or 4×4 configurations.
Just about whatever you need to carry, the deck rail system can do it. It’s compatible with Genuine Toyota Accessories, including a cargo divider that locks into the rails to help keep cargo from sliding around the bed, and mini tie-downs with hooks that also help to secure cargo. An available 120V/400W power point further extends the bed’s utility.
Throne-like Seating
Comfort and durability come together in Tacoma’s seating, which varies by model grade. All Tacoma’s feature a driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support and four-way adjustable front passenger seats. Seating colors include:
The Adventure Enabler
All Tacoma 4×4 models are equipped with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with an electronically controlled transfer case and Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD). Auto LSD is an electronic, brake actuated system that functions like a mechanical limited slip differential when activated a low speeds. Tacoma TRD Sport models are equipped with sport-tuned shocks. TRD Off-Road models include an off-road tuned suspension equipped with Bilstein® shocks.
Tacoma off-roading adventures will reach new levels of fun in the TRD Off-Road grade thanks to the addition of incredible technology. A Multi-Terrain Select system (automatic transmission only) allows the driver to choose between different types of terrain such as loose rock, or mud and sand. Each input regulates wheel spin by adjusting throttle and brake pressure to provide maximum traction on almost any terrain.
Additional off-road technology includes Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), clutch Start Cancel (manual transmission only), Active Traction Control, and Crawl Control. Engaging Crawl Control allows the driver to select a speed of 1-5 mph. The Crawl Control system takes over the acceleration and braking, allowing the driver to focus solely on steering.
All Tacoma models are equipped with a coil-spring double wishbone front suspension and stabilizer bar and leaf spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. Brakes are power-assisted ventilated front disc and rear drum brakes with a tandem booster.
Optional on V6 models is the V6 Tow Package that includes a Class IV Towing Receiver Hitch, ATF Cooler (not available on manual transmission), Engine Oil Cooler, Power Steering Cooler, 130-Amp Alternator, 4- and 7-Pin Connector with Converter, and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC).

Toyota offers the TRD Pro models for Tundra and 4Runner, and now, for the second time, the next generation Tacoma.
You’d be hard pressed to mistake the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro for something else. Its heritage-inspired “TOYOTA” front grille with color-keyed surround, blacked out hood scoop and graphic, color-keyed power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, color-keyed door handles, black overfenders, and color-keyed rear bumper all distinguish it as the most adventurous grade. The TRD Pro not only looks tough, but is designed specifically to perform in the toughest of off-road environments. Based on the Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 Double Cab short-bed model with either a six-speed manual transmission (with clutch start-cancel switch) or six-speed automatic, the Tacoma TRD Pro comes ready to conquer hill and trail. In addition to 4WDemand and all traction features of the TRD Off-Road grade, the Tacoma TRD Pro adds:
Inside, the Tacoma TRD Pro incorporates grade-specific pieces like black leather-trimmed heated front seats with TRD Pro logos on the headrests, TRD shift knob, and TRD Pro floor mats.
