Ernest Bastien is vice president, retail market development for Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc.
Bastien is responsible for the representation of Toyota vehicle brands through its U.S. retail organization. In this role, he oversees the market representation activities including dealership buy and sell, relocation, market studies, facility and signage initiatives, the awarding of new points, and the evaluation of how current trends in automotive retailing may affect Toyota brands in the future. Bastien also directs the Toyota Dealer Investment Group, created to provide finance alternatives to cultivate Toyota's next generation of retailers.
After joining TMS in 1982, Bastien was a fleet field manager at national headquarters in Torrance, Calif. He later held the positions of business management manager, regional parts manager and field operations manager at Toyota's Cincinnati Region. Bastien was also assistant general manager of the San Francisco Region. Most recently, he served as vice president, vehicle operations group, where he was responsible for strategically defining market and sales opportunities for Toyota brand vehicles, incentive management, contests and recognition. In this role, he managed the launch strategy for new products and led the initial introductions for the Sienna, Solara, Tundra, Matrix, Highlander, Sequoia and the revolutionary gas and electric hybrid Prius.
Prior to Toyota, Bastien served as new vehicle sales manager at Auburn Lincoln-Mercury in Auburn, Wash. after leaving a four year career with Ford Motor Company where his last responsibility was zone manager for the Seattle-Tacoma metro area.
Bastien earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
